Heyhey,
I painted a number of BB teams for clients over the years (six or seven teams in total), but funnily enough I only had my own first proper game of Blood Bowl. Incidently, a bunch of plastic Orcs found themselves in my possession about half an hour later and I painted them for their first proper game this Thursday:
Hope you like them, Sirs!
I think it's really time I think of a name now...

That's a nice orange and a lovely skin tone.
Blood Bowl's great fun, if you can get past the sometimes frustrating nature of how random things can be.

Lovely clean scheme that really pops!
I just can't belive you painted them in half an hour. I couldn't even get all the base coats on in that time.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-) |

@pancakeonions: Thanks very much.
@Zwan1One: Cheers. I tried to recreate the look that would go best with those figures.
@ProfessionalAmateur: Thanks. In general I think I'm okay with larger parts of games being random but I get what you're saying and it can be frustrating at times. I haven't had a full game yet, so I'll see how much I really enjoy the game next Thursday.
@Bottle: Thanks muchly. There must have been a slight misunderstanting - I didn't knock those out in half an hour. That would be insane. I only had these minis in my possession half an hour after my buddy showed me how to play Blood Bowl as he had them lying around and probably wasn't going to do anything with them anyway.

Let's just say it's all fun and games until your star player falls down 1 square from the end zone, breaks his neck and dies.

That makes sense! I was also amazed at the idea these were done in 30 mins!!!
Nice job and the colour scheme really suits the minis as people have already suggested.

Half of the fun of Blood Bowl is the incredibly "go big it go home" mentality. I love the game even with all the randomness. You want frustraing though, the thrown rock before the first play of the game putting down your ogre is more frustrating than the failed Go For It! roll killing someone lol!
My fiancee & I play a lot & absolutely love it. We tried to attend the West Coat Quake last year but had car issues.

That's what you get for rolling a 1 on your cars check.

Insufficient sacrifices to the car god Carroll Shelby apparently. I spilled plenty of my own blood after the fact repairing it though.

I take it you're a Bengals fan? Or did you just do orange/black because it's a great color scheme to pop alongside green orc skin?
They are absolutely lovely, by the way!

@ProfessionalAmateur:
@evilsunzacademy: Cheers. Yeah, sorry that I somehow evoked the conception that I painted these in 30min.
@Red_Starrise: Oh yes. Having been hit by a rock in my first game I can confirm it never being a nice thing, but I bet it's a bit distressing if it hits your Big Guy.
@SRSFACE: Thanks very much. I have to admit that I have no idea of American Football what so ever. I merely chose the colours because it goes well with the Orc skin. I planned to do a test mini for orange and one for purple armour, but after having done the orange I liked it so much that I forewent the purple test mini and went with the orange colour scheme.
Well, I had my first proper full game of BB last week! As to be expected I got battered (in several regards). My opponent's Wood Elves weren't quite finished, so I went up against the human team from the box. They scored a very fast touch-down. Fans were very enthusiastic, giving me an extra re-roll for the first half. The whole game took place in pouring rain which led to a few very slap-sticky sequences of people trying to snatch the slippery ball, but not getting a proper grip.
The fans achtually were probably the most interesting thing about the game. They started out very enthusiastic, then I made a grave mistake: A human player wasa bit clumsy and hurt himsel, so three orcs tried to help him up in which course he got badly hurt. That happened twice. Fans interpreted that as fouls (which I can assure you they clearly weren't :p ) and got very grumpy. After the second touchdown scored by the humans someone threw a rock at one of my players, knocking him out. Beginning of the second half there was a pitch invasion and my team got beaten up horribly. I wouldn't have taken BB fans for paragons of fair play, but it looks like they are. All said and done, as the dust settled and the second half actually started I had four guys standing upright, two on the group, the rest were dead or gravely injured. We played some more turns, the humans scored another touch-down and the game ended 3-0 for the humans.
Very interesting game, that BB. Twice I made the big mistake of trying to slip through close to the side lines. I think I'd enjoy the game more if it wasn't for that darned ball. Orcs' armour vaule is amazing.

You think my first clue would have been the home country "Austria" thing next to your name. Hurr hurr.
Sounds like your game didn't go so hot for you, but you had fun. If you're interested in a some tactics for Blood Bowl, there's been a really wonderful fan site dedicated to it for years called BBTactics. Making your initial team can be somewhat disorienting with the sheer amount of rules and possibilities there are so I find it's a pretty good site to go through when I'm constructing teams for the video game version when I've never played that particular team before.
Orks are very, very good through most stages of a Blood Bowl league. Early on you're armor is enough to keep you upright, and later on your blitzers especially will put the hurt on people. Chaos is my first love in BB, but Orks are the team I consistently do the best with. Your milage may vary.

Want a real challenge? Play against skaven. How I detest those damnable rats! Nimble, fast, & agile. But squishy. Amazons are fun too.
I have a lizardmen team I was playing a few weeks ago. Thought it'd be fun to give the ball to the kroxigor. Stupid. It got bobbled around bouncing off like 5 players between the 2 teams before a black orc caught it. I swear he got lucky & it landed in his mouth as he stood staring, slack jawed, at the bouncing ball.
I highly recommend dungeonbowl as a variant. It's so fun. Last game we played the ball got knocked loose & landed on a square teetering on the edge of a pit. Had to make a dodge to get in the square. We each had half our team out of action trying to pick up the ball.

@bbb: Thanks very much.
@SRSFACE: Yeah, I guess we're good with proper Football here. Yeah, the game indeed didn't go hot for me, but it was good fun. Against my regular gaming buddy my win-loss-ratio isn't goo great in general and Blood Bowl is just absolutely his thing. He's been playing since his early teens, knows the rules by heart (which is an achievement as we usually play a different set of rules every two/three weeks or so) and it was my first real game. But it's a quick game to grasp. I think it could be enjoyed by my not-wargaming friends who like very tactical boardgames instead. Thanks for the link to BBtactics, I'll have a look!
@Red_Starrise: Oh well, aren't Skaven kind of hated across all games? A friend of mine who's a lot into BB has a beautiful amazons team (you can see some pictures here: http://3878134.weebly.talkiforum.com/20111027/painting-tabled-along-961035/page6/ ) and seems to be very happy with them. Dungeonbowl sounds like barrels of fun. I'll try to get into regular BB first and if we get bored we can go for the wacky variants.
@Callocx: Thanks muchly. What happened to them?
Weekend! Very nice weather too, so maybe time for some sport. So I put the Polish lancers (for whom I started painting a bunch of horses now) aside for a bit and got out the four more Bloodbowl Orcs I got:
Two more Blitzers, two more Black Orc Blockers ( WIP of course). Very glad these found their way into my possession. Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh yes this is nice. Here we are a few layers later:
Seems like things are starting to take shape.

@Atropus: Me? Nope. I mean I have no particular feelings towards people from Bengal and, as stated above, no interest in American Football. Thanks very much!
@Rayvon: Cheers, thanks for commenting!
Started doing some details:
Automatically Appended Next Post: Hi, me again.
GiraffeX's (who in my project log rightly pointed out that the metal Black Orc I'm painting in fact is a Lineman model) words have been eating away at me, so it's entirely his fault that I had to put Blorcy horns on the guy's helmet:
 Also got some more details done. Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, hi. Welcome back!
The Orcs are finished just as Sunday draws to a close:
The colours are a little dulled down due to the three layers of varnish. (Blood Bowl can be a rough sport on the minis). Hope you like them!
