I'm a Space Marine player who likes to go shooty! I'm wanting to add some armour mainly as a bit of a centre piece but also to be playable.

The 2 options I see are either a land raider which i will magnetize to be normal or a crusader, these I would use with 10 sternguard to break an infantry line.

The other is a Sicaran, a nice shooty tank and 100pts less to use.

Can anyone offer advice? Really only have cash for one at the moment.

My army is pictured, at the moment I'm painting a telion, 5 shooty termies, a termie captain plus a contemptor dreadnought.

Nice looking force you have there.

While the LR is iconic, and works well as a centerpiece of a mechanized force, the Sicaran is a sexy tank with some very solid rules. The old school traditionalist in me says to take the LR, but pretty much every other part screams to go for the FW tank. Jealous, jealous, screaming.

Thank you.

You just hit my dilemma on the head! The first time in this hobby as a child the LR was the grail item so nostalgia is screaming for that. The Sicaran is great looking like the LR and may fit my army better!

Does the Spartan feature in your thinking? That's a sexy, Land Raider-esque Forge World tank, which thanks to Ceramite plating can be a real bear to deal with.

It's damage output isn't all it could be, but with a Capacity of 20 it is an excellent Line Breaker.

If it's simply a choice between Sicaran and ordinary Land Raider, Sicaran all day every day, it's a Swiss Army knife of a tank that can handle nearly all types of target and just happens to excel at dealing with one of the most obnoxious units currently in the game.

We find comfort among those who agree with us - growth among those who don't. - Frank Howard Clark

Sicaran! Nice looking tank and will definitely make a nice centrepiece for your army instead of generic land raider No# 2049. Plus it's good against wave serpents!

The Sicaran is a better all-round battle tank, especially for shooty armies. The Land Raider Crusader and Redeemer are close support for assault armies, the base variant is schizoid and doesn't do any one job particularly well.

The spartian is nice but a little past what I'm comfortable spending on a single model, same with the armoured proteus.

The other I Iike is the Helios.

Everything says Sicaran but my heart is screaming LR!

The Helios is a fair bit less schizoid than the base LR. I wish there was a version that had the Whirlwind Scorpius launcher, but that's probably too much to ask.

if its going to be an LR take an achillies-alpha. points heavy, but space-elfs (jedi and sith) s#|+ bricks to kill it when you have one! it's the best you can do without being a deathwing or Ordo Reductor variant.

but i would like to cast my vote for the sicarian battletank. great rules, lovely model and although its more expensive in £'s than the LR achillies (eigther one) you wont suffer as much rage from your 'ignores jink' rule than you will from negating both the lance and melta rules!

and the sicarian battletank is very much cheaper in points, you can take 2 base spec ones for the price of a fully tooled LR

The Sicaran is the better choice in terms of competitiveness.

You might want to make sure that your local community are ok with FW though, as some places can be a bit difficult with such things, and it would suck to buy an awesome and expensive model and have people whine about you using it.

I decided to stick with the LR for now, I wanted one for ages so it cures an itch for me.

Lets be honest though, the Sicaran will be next, especially as a DE player at my club threw a fit when I mentioned it earlier...
