I... actually don't know. Help?

So, I'm painting my Ork bases in The Fang. Should I highlight them? It seems like a weird idea, but it might be cool. And if I should, what colour do I use?

Personally, I wouldn't. Unless you truly think it adds to the piece drawing attention away from the model is not generally a good practice.

Bases should be minimalist if possible.

I definitely would not highlight them. They are already in an obvious colour, I think highlights would just distract from the model.

The base itself or the trim? The trim I usually leave black or some other dark color, to make an obvious contrast with the model and flock. The flock I would highlight only barely or not at all.

I would say no. You don't want the rim of the bases pulling attention away from the mini.

You leave the sides of the base alone, if it is a typical GW base.

Painting these typically draws the eye away from the miniature because it looks so obviously painted, and is a giant, flat, expansive surface that will have brush marks showing that will SLAM the eye down to those brush-marks.

Even if painted with an airbrush, if the base frame texture is a significant departure from the base surface (where the miniature sits) texture, then it will draw the eye.

DON'T is the answer, as has been repeated.

Honestly, I've seen people do everything from celtic designs to the characters name painted around the edge of the base so I say go for it. It's something different and might look cool. I myself drybush the edges to be the same color as I do the sand.

In fact, do simply because everyone else has said no

Just try it out, if you don't like it then you can always grep a brush and make it monocoloured again without any real risk of ruining your model (unless you're THAT clumsy)
