...how would you do it? There seems to be two schools of thought. One: run it as beefy as possible. As many meks as you can fit inside for loadsarepairs, a KFF, and grot riggers. 2 meks having shokk attack guns to shoot out with being optional. Two: Its already too expensve to be on the field competativley for what it offers, so run it bare bones and save as many points as you can for the actually good units to run. I am dead set on running one in a local tournament, and currently am leaning toward option two with maaaabye a mek with a KFF just to hopefully extend its time on the board. Now that I dont have to worry about trancendent ctan blowing it off the field in one shot, I am hopeing for better results.

Do they do best as a support unit, staying back and being part of your armies firepower? Do they do better by being a mobile fearless beacon, running up into assault asap? I still havent had much success with one, friendly game or competative.

One thing is for sure, it dosent leave me with alot of points left. its minimum just over 1/3 of my total points. Should I just fit as many orks in trukks and battlewagons, and mabye some bikes as I can and just drive forward and hope for the best? I really have no idea how to make this sucker work, but as is, I am thinking its more useful as a sit back and shoot unit, at least until its gun runs out of ammo invariably on the second turn of shooting.

At 2000 pt, I ran the Green Tide with a barebones Stompa. It did pretty well.

I think I only have about 50 basic orks otherwise I would be all over that.

I don't remember exactly what the list was, but this is what it would be if I ran it again. The basic idea is that I have a list that doesn't give away kill points easly, it also has a dangerous high armour target plus a horde. So any army skewed toward anti infantry or anti tank ends up getting screwed.

Spoiler:

Most of the missions had kill points as either the primary or the secondary. To beat this list in kill points you almost have to kill the tide. I won two games, lost one I ended up winning the tournament.

In order to protect the Stompa I was deploying it behind the Tide; looking back on it I think it would have been better to deploy it on a flank so that it would be able to move more freely. I used the gretchin to screen the tide.

The first game my opponent was running a guard/chaos list, with allot of summoning. My opponent kept summoning daemons and assaulting the Tide. The tide in turn kept killing the daemons, so he basically fed me kill points for two or three turns. Meanwhile he focused allot of fire on the Stompa, and eventually killed it. By then the tide had been freed up and was able to rampage through his army.

The second game I played against a guy who runs a scout army with the Iron Hand Chapter Master on a bike, plus an Imperial Knight, plus a Storm Raven, and Vindicators. He is a good player and it is a tough list for me to fight in the best of circumstances. It was an attack defend mission, I was the attacker. Which meant he got a building with a str 9 (I believe) barrage weapon for free. He focused fired the Tide and was able snipe out my characters with the barrage weapon. He was then able to grind down the Tide with his bikers. I lost that game.

The third game I played an Imperial Guard player. He 50 guards men and some tanks and stuff. He deployed too close, I got a turn 2 charge on his blobs, rolled 120 dice, he then conceded.

I will admit this wasn't the best test for this list; even so in my opinion this is one of the best ways to run a Stompa at the 2000 point level.

I think a lot of people forget that you can fire several missiles a turn, load that baby up and firem ASAP, otherwise they will be wasted ordinance because they just draw fire and die to quickly...Another train of thought would be to give the Stompa a KFF big Mek and then leave it bare bones. That way it survives a lot, draws a lot of firepower and you have loads of other stuff racing up the board. I like the idea of Running a few trukks/BW up the field with that stompa drawing fire for them.

I come in peace. I didn't bring artillery. But I'm pleading with you, with tears in my eyes: If you mess with me, I'll kill you all
