Let's say an SW runepriest joins a AM unit of veterans. Then I put the ignore cover order on them, does the runepriest then also recieve ignore cover?

The order rules only states that i have to select a unit from the AM codex and then that unit have the order if I succed the leadership test.

He is counted as part of the unit right?

iirc the order says that models from from the AM codex in the unit gain ignores cover, but I could be wrong.

‘Fire on my Target!’ can only be issued by a model with the Senior Officer special rule. The ordered unit must make a shooting attack. When resolving this shooting attack, all weapons in the ordered unit have the Ignores Cover special rule.

The Voice of Command rule specifies "unit from Codex: Astra Militarm", not "models in target unit from Codex: Astra Militarum"; this has not been FAQed. The Independent Character rules state that the model counts as part of the unit he's joined for all purposes.

So yes, if an IC joins a Guard unit, he benefits from any Orders the officer gives the unit. Go to town.

So does it work the other way around as well? Lets say a AM psyker joins a SW unit, does the whole unit gain the benefits from the orders?

No. The AM psyker can't be given an order.

And why is that?

Because the IC rule states that an IC is part of the unit he joins for all purposes.

Because the AM psyker has become part of the SW unit for all rules purposes. And you can't give orders to a SW unit, since they are not part of the AM codex.

Because when the AM psyker joined the SW unit it become a member of the SW unit, but the SW did not become members of an AM unit. The orders may only be issued to AM units.

Is the Psyker a AM unit whilst also a member of the SW unit? More then likely not. Its not explicitly expressed in the RAW that an IC stops counting as a unit when it joins a different unit but 99.999% of the players are going to play it that way. You also don't want to go down that road when you start thinking about targeting units for powers/shooting etc.
