Presently there are strongly supported rumors that GW is going to give the Mechanicum its own 40k codex because of their strong FW 30k reception. The rumors imply that this is an army release beyond the level of support of the Harlequins.
The rumor are Skitarii and a large spider like troop transport as the first models. I'm curious to see what people want to see from this release or simply what they speculate GW will do.

First the simple stuff I find hard to believe GW would leave out... the Mechanicum's portrayal in the fluff is heavily reliant on servitors and techpriests, those seem a shoe-in especially when you consider such a kit can pull double duty for the IG. The other Mechanicum units that dominate their portrayal are Robots and the large gun-tracked tanks, the question is how much will GW define the 40k era Mechanicum with these, since by the 40k era the Legio Cybernetica are disbanded and artificial intelligence are banned and FW has already done the Krios.

As GW has done in the past with other armies, its likely the Skittarii will get some variants. The FW Thallax are supposed to be an elite form of Skitarii, I doubt we'll get much in the way of FW copied units but it might indicate the general gist and general power level of the skitarii and skitarii derived units.

Even though AdMech Robots aren't supposed to [be as common] in the 40k era, find it hard to believe GW would complete nix the visual concept. I won't be surprised if the AdMech end up with some units that look like Robots but have some fluffy explanation such as being more like dreadnought, a robot body but with a skitarii brain instead of a true artificial intelligence.

Similar to what FW did, I could see GW including a Knight titan into the AdMech list as a simple Heavy Support choice.

Anyone else have ideas?

Im not sure how Admec could be run.

Perhaps elite heavy with light "brain dead" infantry (tech thralls, servitors with lasguns or something with rules akin to how seritors run), along with heavy tanks with funny abilities like their current FW machines. *shrug*.

As far as I know the Ad Mech robots still exist in 40k. The Legio Cybernetica hasn't gone away, they are smaller then the more major and prominent branches like the Titans or Skittari but Im sure they could still fight. Perhaps they could have elite Servitor units.

As for their tanks.
The FW ones could be the expensive brusiers along with your standard Russes and maybe some rhinos with their own special tricks, like BS or some techno-crazy stuffs.

i always got the feeling that in 40k the admech were more a support force, not really engaging directly in war, just hanging around to fix stuff.
techmarines are more like the myrmidons from 30k than any recognised admech representative in 40k - the only other i can think of right now being the IG techpriest engineseer which clearly inspired the techpriest auxillia squads in the taghmata list.

i totally agree the admech need some representation; their list might be able to look like re-purposed civilian tech. i always liked the sentinel power-lifter.

i gather that was one of the considerations for the design of the imperial knight, hence the lifting-eyes all over the thing.

The mechanicum like many other arms of the Imperium has its own motives. The mechanicum has its own armies, the Skitarii being the largest of them. I'd guess the two most common types of combat action the Mechanicum take are defending forgeworlds and their protectorate worlds that feed the resources to them and crusades and exploratory missions to claim or reclaim lost technology.

While I personally can't see it happening, I have a dream of an imperial faction that is loaded with flyers kind of like SM I guess but alot of cheap flyers like the old cron air cept with less fire power to balance them out.

Kind of like flying razorbacks at + 30 points each with limited carrying capacity of like 5 models or something and grav chute insertion only - no hover mode. It'll never happen but I can always dream

come on adeptus mehanicus, build it!

Cheap (monetarily speaking) troops are what the current FW AdMech lists lack. So much so that even FW had to rethink their pricing of £25 for 5 tech-thralls. The problem is that I don't see GW doing a 10-man box for a mini-dex release. And when I use the term "mini-dex," I'm referring to armies like Militarum Tempestus or Harlies. So, we're sorta left with the same problem of paying $35-$40 for a 5-man box of Skitarrii.

It's also important (in the context of these rumors) to recognize that there IS a difference between The Mechanicum and The Adeptus Mechanicus... Just sayin'

One is 30k and the other 40k... and while GW "Prime" has a lock on 40k, the Horus Heresy period is the domain of Forge World.

First I gotta say I'm gonna miss your show.

To the rest: Very true. It's easy to get all twisted up by naming conventions when we usually deal with just one era and you can normally be sloppy about it.

Contextually the 30k Mechanicum is a much more fractured entity with more subfactions able to act autonomously. The 40k Adeptus Mechanicus seem to have much stronger ties with the Imperium and at times have a much more united front. In the 30k era they're less constrained by dogma while in the 40k era there is more orthodoxy and less effort to better understand the science of their technology.

This codex is an opportunity for GW to convey this evolution of the Mechanicum into the Adeptus Mechanicus: what technology has been lost, what technology has been repurposed, and what technology has slowly improved. That said GW Prime will have their own vision for the Adeptus Mechanicus that will be quite different from FW's Mechanicum and it will be interesting to see what common threads they maintain and what things they decide to go in a completely different direction. The rumored giant spider transport being the perfect example of that.

I hope there is a Giant Robot Spider as their 100+ Oval Base model.

Thought for the day: Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

If there is the giant robot spider from mars, it probably won't have a base, just like how the defiler doesn't have a base.

Thanks man. I'm going to miss it too. But too many other things going on that would pull me away from the quality. And I can't let that happen!

Thanks for listening.
