Ancient Space Wolves Venerable Dreadnought
I... actually don't know. Help?

I'm thinking about converting some 'Ard Boytz out of Black Orcs. Would this work? How much do they differ in scale?

Agent black orcs the fantasy equivalent of nobs? If so that might get confusing.

They are just Orcs in armour, so I reckon it would be one of the best ways to do it. Just add Slugga or Shoota arms and you should be good to go!

Black orc torsos have their shoulders attached in a certain way. It'll require a little conversion but they work.

Yeah, IIRC they all have 'waving one arm over the head' poses, which due to the shoulder construction would need some chopping to change the pose. You'll also need a hand swap to give them a slugga/shoota. Scale-wise I see no problem.
But a simpler and cheaper method would be to add armour to some boyz. E.g. any of:
- looted marine shoulder pads
- helmets (possibly just bulk up the boyz helmeted heads) or if you have some cash, 1:32 or 1:35 WW2 British helmets are the right size and look great
- torso armour - basically any bits of 'steel' (or just plain plasticard cut to size) around the right size to protect the front or back, held on by a few rivets and straps

Black Orcs are a little bigger then Boyz, and a little smaller then Nobz. I had some that I used as Nobz...but they didn't survive the great Ork repaint.

I did that. I used a dremel to hollow out the shoulder to fit a 40k ork arm.
They are a bit bigger, and look better with Nob parts.

I used black orks for MANZ. I just replaced their arms with power klawz and shootas. As mentioned earlier, the torso size is a little bigger than normal boyz.
I used the left over black arm bitz and shields from some fantasy orcs for my 'ard boyz. You can see some pics (poorly painted I will admit. They do look a little better in person) of what I did for 'ard boyz. Basically, all of my boyz with shields were armored.
