Hey, I was reading through the BRB and after reading again the rules on transports I'm not so sure anymore that I've been playing completely by the rules.

The issue I'm having is following:

Let's say that I have a 10 man Devastator squad with 2 missile launchers and 2 heavy bolters. This squad has a Razorback as a dedicated transport. The rulebook says that the whole unit has to be able to board the transport and I can't embark with partial units but what happens when I split the Dev squad into 2 combat squads? Obviously the whole original 10 man squad here can't fit inside the Razorback and the combat squad can so am I breaking the rules by using a dedicated transport purchased for the whole squad for transporting say, only the Heavy Bolters and 3 other marines into a better vantage point? Or in other words, is the combat squad a "whole" unit or just half of it?

Thanks in advance.

No, you are not breaking any rules. The combat squads are now individual units, so each half of the squad CAN fit inside, just fine.

Correct, however, 2 combat squads from the same parent squad can still ride in a rhino together... this normally is not allowed, but combat squads get permission to pull this one off.

But your combat squad is 5 Marines. It's never 3 or 6 it's 5. And I sold my SM codex or I'd tell you the page, but the rule states that they can start in the same transport during deployment if they want but once the exit, they are separate from then on.

Also, note that combat squadding happens at the beginning of the game. It sounds like you're trying to deploy the unit as a single squad then break it up later when you want to move some of the models, and that is not legal.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.
