used to use ogres, have 16 ogre bulls, 9 ironbellies, 8 leadbelchers, bruiser BSB, tyrant, slaughtermaster, firebelly, thundertusk/stonehorn, 2 gorgers, 20 gnoblars, 4 mournfang cavalry and I'm converting a hunter.

I'm pretty rusty at fantasy, but I'm trying to make some different combinations for crazy fun.

one of my ideas was to have the hunter (who can't join units anyway) with an arabyan carpet, 180 points for a highly mobile S6 spear. useful for getting rear charges at the same time as another unit charges the front, as well.

also a tyrant with the tricksters shard and a mountaineater big name, useful for taking on monsters.

I'm considering bringing a herd, now that the end times allows 50% heroes and 50% lords. 50% of the army as hunters on stonehorns, 25% as just stonehorns/thundertusks, and 25% as core. stomp stomp stomp!

If you want Ogres to be good, 1) forget trying to make a Hunter work. he just doesn't. 2) Don't use a Tyrant except in like 3000+ point games. A Slaughtermaster is more important to have. The typical character loadout for Ogres is Slaughtermaster, a BSB Bruiser, and 1-2 butchers.

At a typical point level of 2500 points, you'd see a list of 2 Ironblasters(which I notice you are lacking), a unit of 4 Mournfang with HA, Ironfists, and Dragonhide Banner, 3 single Sabretusks(to use as chaff and charge blockers or Manglersquig killers), and then the rest of your points in Core. Maybe a couple units of Leadbeltchers depending on what direction you want your army to take. Firebellys are a good substitute for butchers.

I really recommend 1 Ironblaster at the very least, the Ogre army really needs the support it brings. After that, a Stonehorn is a good support piece. Charge it into the same combats your main blocks are fighting in so he can just wrack up combat resolution for them.

With the things you have, and a couple small purchases, I have roughly the following list.

Lvl4 Slaughtermaster with full kit and Gutmagic: 385ish pts depending on loadout.

BSB with defensive gear 185ish

Firebelly with Rubyring 150ish pts

lvl2 Butcher with heavens and carrying the Hellheart 185 pts

2 units of 8 Bulls with Ironfists and full command.

1 unit of 9 Ironguts with full command and the Banner of Discipline(put your Slaughtermaster here so you have Ld9)

4 Mournfangs with IF, HA, Bellower, and Dragonhide banner 350 pts

3 Sabretusks

Stonehorn

This roughly 2500 points give or take some upgrades or individual models.

Firebelly on a flying carpet is pretty solid.
He's got a solid enough stat line to take on chaff, and can blast away with his fireball while he moves into position.
A flying S4 breathe is likewise very good.

Gnoblars are the under-dog, under-rated godsend. 25 points for a unit that doesn't panic anything you have. Try running ~6 to 8 units of these. Deployed 2 wide so they fit in near each other, and you'll find that they can delay half the opponents army for at least half the game.
