So here are the three I am interested in
Grey knights, a low model army that looks amazing on the table
Imperial Guard, got to love waves of infantry and powerful tanks
Blood Angels, did someone say blitz?

GK are a great ally but not a great standalone, Guard require a lot of models to get started with. Start with the BA, you've got the Deathstorm box for some models in addition to the core rulebook, add some extra jump packers onto that, and you've got a solid starting force.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

As far as people saying gk aren't great alone that's true for a competegive scene but if you're playing for enjoyment of the game/model aesthetics/painting/cost then gk are perfect. You'll be able to play larger points faster. I own orks and gk and love both.

Also voting for BA. You don't even have to do traditional BA and could instead do Flesh Tearers or one of the other successors.

I love my grey knights and they do great as a stand alone army. I often place top 3 with them in the local tournament scene

Blood Angels, although I am quite biased. The handful of games I've played with the new codex have been a blast, as there are tons of flexibility and options to choose from. I played 3 wildly different lists.

Dante is a beastly LoW, Sanguinary Guard are both good and fluffy and Death Company are still a rapetrain, especially with Astorath and his re-rolls.

You dont get ALL the toys of regular SM, but...Death Company...
