Found one for about 50 dollars cheaper than the 230$ that Games Workshop is charging for it right now. I'm looking to start a SM army and I just want to make sure that all the stuff that comes with it will be useful.

For those of you who are unaware, it comes with

1x SM Captain
1x 10 Man Tac Squad
1x Drop Pod
1x Dreadnought
1x Razorback
1x 5 man Sternguard Squad
1x Storm Talon

Yep, it's already discounted at its base cost, so if you can get one for even less then go for it. All those units are decent, but the real beauty of SM stuff is that if you don't like the unit, you can pretty much build it as any other. Only want 5 Tacticals? Use extras to turn the other half into Sternguard. Want an Honour Guard squad? Use the Sternguard bodies and some traded/2nd hand/ebay power weapons and you're sorted!

You'll need one more Troops choice to make this a Battleforged force, unless you run the Tacticals as 2 squads of 5 (not reccommended), but it's a jolly good deal!

It's a solid kit, gets you a lot of useful tools pretty inexpensively.

I was wondering which strikeforce is better between this current strikeforce or the previous version strikeforce for the Space Marines?

I like the new one but the old ones seem to have more bang for your buck. And I have the opportunity to get either one.

All the space marine power armour is interchangeable, sternguars, tac sqauds, maybe a few custom HQ units, tons of choices on the infriantry alone.

Most of the stuff is useful to all types of force, and dreadnoughts are fun, maybe not 100% effective but look coo!

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.

The older one that had another Tactical Squad instead of the Sternguard? Yeah, get that one, as it gets you a useable Combined Arms Detachment from one box, rather than requiring you to buy another Troops unit. It also gets you a bit more bang for your buck in model count, since in the newer one the Sternguard take up a hell of a lot of the 'value' even with discount as they are so expensive.

The old one was better IMHO, and if you can still find one I’d recommend it over the new one.

= drop pod
= razorback
= dreadnought
= tactical squad

- sternguard
- stormtalon
- monopose captain

+ sniper scouts
+ second tac squad
+ assault marines
+ command squad
+ Multipose captain

Now both the sternguard and talon are good units, and well worth picking up. But the monopose captain is not. You could build the command squad as sternguard if you wanted to (although they would not look as cool) But the old box gave you a much better sized army to start with. Some of the units might not be the best in the book, but you get a lot of them. And a viable army from the get go.

I am kicking myself over the fact that I didn't get EITHER of these boxes. I got practically everything from them just shortly before they were released. That Strike Force, got a Razorback, Stormtalon, and Sternguard squad a WEEK before the Strike Force was announced. Both of the sets are well worth it, but the first one was better overall, especially if you are starting a new army.
