I... actually don't know. Help?

According to my codex, a single Chaos Marine costs 13 points. But above thast, the minimum size of a squad is 5. It also says a squad like that costs 75 points, but according to my math, 5 marines should cost 65 points. How do I calculate this?

To Valhall! ~2800 points

The aspiring champion cost of 10 pts is included.

You should be able to cost it using your codex no problem. Be careful when using software, battlescribe always costs them wrong for me.

Also be careful when adding in extra ccws that you dont pay again for the champion who comes with one.

As already stated, you're not paying for five CSM. You're paying for four CSM plus one character. That's why the initial cost is 10 points higher.

Huh? What?

You said that a single chaos marine was 13 points. Here is the equation:
13 x 10=130
So, if you added upgrades, it would be more than 130.
Cool?

But that's not correct because - as the rest of the thread has stated - the Champion is more than 13 points.
So a squad of 10 is 140 points.

But why are you assuming a 10 man squad? That wasn't in the original question.

When purchasing any unit you first have to pay the base cost listed next to their enter then after that you can buy equipment and more models (if the option exists).

So you pay 75 then decide how many additional models you want (e.g 5 more at 13 points each) which gets you to 140 points then you decide you want to swap all their bolters for close combat weapons (free) then you decide to buy couple of flamers (+5 each) voila final cost

Chaos Marines cost 13 points.
Aspiring Champions effectively cost 23 points (13 + 10).

Same with most loyalist squads as well. Sarges usually equal the base marine + 10. Same goes for things like Tau Fire Warriors. +1A/+1Ld is usually costed at +10pts across most armies.

Not always consistent though... Kroot Shapers are +15 points and gain +2W/+2A/+1Ld.

Not sure about DA or SW, but for SM and BA, the Sarge is the same cost as a regular guy in the squad, and then it's an additional 10 pts to upgrade to a Veteran Sgt.

Of course Eldar Exarchs get +1 WS, +1 BS, +1 I, +1 I, and possibly +1 Sv.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Ah, yeah. Missed that change. My head is still in old editions. Haven't played Marines in awhile. I get so tired of painting the same old power armour.
