A random thought occurred to me when I was looking at this picture:

Got me to reading the wiki on war games and it seems that it is a time honored tradition among the real military and that there are even war gaming departments in the current military.

I've read a lot of times on people playing strategy games like regicide and started wondering if there has ever been any references to characters playing games like warhammer in the fictional universe? (breaking the 4th wall ! )

I can see Kharn running a super cheesy Grey Knights list when all of his buddies just want to play for fluff and then rage quits and kills them when he fails a terminator save with a one.

There is a popular game in the Imperium known as Regicide, but it supposedly resembles straight up chess more than 40k. Fear to Tread mentions Horus and Sanguinius playing it against each other.

Perturabo and pretty much the entire "senior command staff" of the Iron Warriors. Angel Exterminatus has this great scene where basicly Perturbao and his Leuitenants are playing 40k against one another

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Perturabo: I'm tired of you guys always taking GravCent lists! I mean, c'mon, the loyalists are sure to bring at least three units of Vanguard Veterans!".

Yeah, but I can see why he wasn't too happy. I mean, Horus did bring a completely cheesy list. I think he must be some kind of WAAC player!

I think they must have been playing Epic, they were doing The Siege of Terra, at 40K scale it would have taken weeks

I... actually don't know. Help?

I just pictured Empy winning a battle of 40K against an Eldar Farseer, creating a huge war...

The emperor probably had to beat the wave serpent spam. I'm sure the farseer is pissed since she most likely dominated her local meta for weeks with that stuff. Oh look, here's an imperial titan and I'm a firing my mind bullets!

I've taken part in a multiday seige of terra campaign before. It was bloody and crazy and very epic. 3 days for like 10hrs a day and we never quite finished it. We're not the only folks to try it either.

These guys have such a cooler set of models than we had (and we didn't bother filming as it's just too long) but if you never seen it before, check this out -it's got like 5 parts for that thing and very nicely painted to boot.
