So I have a plasma cannon guy who keeps wrecking face and putting direct hits in middle of squads. Taking out half squads of other marines and terminators in the few games I've played. So my question is what would a marine put on his armor that could symbolize his badassness. I know marines get bolter rounds for marksmanship but I want to paint/stand out? Anything you guys have done/read in books/lore?

Well the bolter shell for marksmanship doesn't nessecarily have to be a physical bolter shell, you could always paint one on his shoulder pad or knee or something?

If he's in a tac squad you could give him a devastator squad marking somewhere, maybe a small one in the front of his shoulder armour. So you'd have the regular tac arrow with a smaller chevron or explosion in front of it.

If he's in a dev squad then you could simply add a marksman shell somewhere. If you make the shell large enough then you could include some form of the dev symbol inside it.

You could also have kill stripes or marks on the weapon itself or on a parchment hanging off the weapon.

Ohhhh kill marks or something on the weapon would be cool too

What chapter do you play? Possibly paint him up as a veteran?

You could also add to his basing. put some skulls and helmets at his feet of the enemies that he has killed, or maybe slap on a couple of purity seals on his armor.

Induct him into the Deathwatch and replace his shoulder pad with the Deathwatch one. if you have a spare Crux Terminatus, that would also set him apart. Veteran status is about the highest honor a Space Marine can get without being promoted.

I've messed around with adding purity seals and other adornments for high performing models, but I found it got a little busy quickly.

I think free-handing on or stenciling certain symbols associated to the lore of that specific chapter would be the way to go.

Right, left pauldrons would be the places to put these at. Kill marks and other more informal markings [in my mind] should go on the greaves. The informal marking would probably depend on the chapter too. Ultramarines are most likely very strict about informal anything on uniforms. Then the mechanicus would probably chime in about desecrating the machine spirit of the armour.

Age of Sigmar - It's sorta like a clogged toilet, where the muck crests over the rim and onto the floor. Somehow 'ground marines' were created from this...

Do whatever you think feels right. Honor scrolls and purity seals would be a great way to do it (if you can manage the small print).

The new Tac squad has bolters and arms with Marksmen Honour badges dangling. Could grab one of those

You could:

Add small red X-es, to represent enemies killed
Lots of Purity Seals

To Valhall! ~2800 points

What about tank style markings, purity seals as per norm but barrel stripes/marks on weapon to indicate particular worthy kills.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.

Nice. Thanks for the advice everyone.

Make it so he puts a cut on his cheek for each kill he gets, eventually having a super scarred face.... then he will turn to Chaos and become Plasma-Man the eternal!

In all seriousness, give him a name. I award all my top notch models with names. Naming them is fun, adds flavour, and seems an honour to be known in a tide of men.

Oh and you can show this by writing his name on the base.

I knew a guy once who had a chapter that honored the weapon instead of the marine, so his guys' bolters had purity seals instead of the power armor. Seemed kinda fun.

When a cultist of mine does really well (gets a kill/wins a challenge) I give him the honor of not being placed at the front of the unit.... So maybe you could place that devastator in the back of the unit meaning that he will die last!

That sounds more Chaos-y than IoM haha, but I love that idea. Might take it for my chaos boys.
