So I am starting up 40k again from a bit of a hiatus. Trying to get a version of my old GK inquisition list back up and running. Confused about detachments.
If I want a 'bound' list, can I take two detachments of the Inquisition (1 HQ and 3 warbands each) along with one detachment of Grey Knights? Is such a thing allowed?
Could I add an assassin to that too? Would that still be 'Bound'?

Yes. Battle Forged lists just require all of your army to be in some of detachments. There is no limit on how many detachments of how many kinds you can take (unless it specific to the detachment like for Allied detachments)
Also Formations are just a different kind of detachment.

Cool thanks. I have to spend points for more than one HQ since they split up the GK codex into 3 (grumble grumble) but at least Inquisitor HQs can be cheap!

Hehhee, well, as someone who love assassins, but hate grey knights, I was quite glad of the splits!
One thing to bear in mind, is that when tournaments are introducing selections, they are typically limiting you to two detachments, so CAD plus allies, or CAD plus formation for example.

I doubt I am going to do any tournaments any time soon. At least with the new version of my old list that now needs 4 detachments instead of one!

Fair do's I hope you have some good games dusting these guys off!
Honestly though, anyhting more than two or three detachments, at least in my local meta is a bit frowny face, it's kind of looked onas gaming the system. However, as you say, you'r enot going to tournaments, so that should be good for friendly games.

I run 4 detachments in a routine army if I am not playing unbound.
It's fine, go for it.

It's not a cheese list, more like "trying to get a close version of my common mediocre list to work from last edition before GW cruely split up my codex" list. Lol

I assume the issue you're running into is that you want to have 4 or more groups of henchmen, plus some grey knight troops? Depending on who you are playing with you might want to consider unbound lists instead of battle forged. You can cut those extra HQ choices at the expense of the detachment benefits. If the grey knights are CAD or Allied then you'd be giving up objective secured on the grey knight troop choices, but if you are playing with 4 or more henchmen war bands my guess is you don't have that many grey knight troop choices to begin with and the inquisition and assassin detachments have crap for benefits.
Another option is the forge-world inquisitors. This is a bit of a messy subject as those characters where uodated for 6th edition before the codex split. Whoever you play with will have to agree on how to house rule them for 7th edition.

Where are the updates? I remember a sheet being available on the FW downloads page, but it's not there anymore. Were the =][= models updated in a recent IA "Second Edition" book?
