So I am playing a 2000 point game where I am likely to play against centurions but I don't own any to go to to toe nor do I own bikes. How you fight them as a straight space marine codex? At 2000 points he'll have fliers too so likely can't overwhelm with that. Thoughts?

Vindicators and throw all your dice at invis?
Sniper scouts and LSS to make Gate difficult or spamming blind genades to make them BS1 (and WS1 to tarpit for longer) along with suicidal tarpit charges from LSS's to allow your other elements to do their thing and or get into position to assault them?
Hammernators in land raiders?
DS Hammernators in combination with locator beacons in drop pods?
3 Storm Ravens, 3 storm Talons, a Storm Wing and MSU scouts in ruins?
Include coteaz in your list to try an sieze and orbital bombardment?
MSU pod/rhino with plasma/combiplas + Sternguard with combiplas in pods? Exchange plas for grav for the ironic lolz. Bonus points for taking 6 tacs in pods and combat squadding so he can't kill every unit.
Lascannon devs on skyshield landing pad? to limit movement/deployment?
VV's with storm shields to tie them up in a very long slapfight while surviving incoming fire.
2-3 combat squadded units of assault marines to tarpit them, bonus points if in a free pod.

Some combination of the above?

A lot of really good suggestions, Drasius!

He means Vanguard Veterans, should show what the abbreviated, yellow, letter combinations are if you hover over them.

What do you typically run when trying to combat them and what do you have available to you?

A lucky Vindicator shot will Insta-Death them on 2+, failing that Sternguard with Poisoned ammo, Assault Terminators or Librarians (preferably Severin Loth) to get Invisibility.

Is there a tanky HQ with the unit? If not, you can just charge them with tactical marines and sit back and watch the slap fest as they bog down in an endless close combat. If there is a character in the unit, you will need to bring one of your own to tie him up while a sarge with an axe carves up the unit.

Cents are one of the shootier units in our codex. Trying to line up and trade shots is not going to work out particularly well. Unless you have an open enough table that you can try to out-range them. But they are really pretty incompetent in assault. So charge them with whatever you have, and at the very least you can silence their shooting. Which considering their points, is probably a tactical advantage on par with actually killing them.

It really depends how they come. A lone squad is not too bad, as they are very vulnerable to ap2 weapons. Plasma or something similar will do fine.

If they come with some kind of invulnerable save, or invisibility, then things are going to be more difficult. If you have fast units, then try to get get them in cc. If that is not possible, then weight of fire will work (invulnerable saves) or ignoring them and playing the game (invisibility).

Sadly I have no vindicator but I could try to tie them up in close combat. Good suggestion.

I'd use Grav Centurions against them. You know what they say about fighting fire.

They/them

a Stormraven will make Centurion Mincemeat with alarming efficiency.

A pair of Bolterboat Preds will also drop one every turn through pure weight of dice

Other than that, not a great lot will work aside from what has already been said

If they get there then fine......but they probably won't. 3+ save with no cover or invulnerable means gravcannons will massacre you if given the chance.

Bikes are a safer bet, especially whitescar bikes with their 3+ jink.

Rob, what do you have available if none of the common options?

Also, I would ask what CT you are using, as that may prove to be a factor

I dont have a stormraven, any bikes, or a vindicator or centurions. I pretty much have everything else. Mass of bodies and transports. Talons, landspeeders, scouts, assaults, more bodies, thunderfire cannon. Basically nothing crazy expensive lol.

I run Imperial Fists.

Fair enough

A squad of double melta land speeders would make a dint

Talons would also make a mess, but not quite so efficiently

Other than that, drown them in bullets works for imperial fists

"Because the Wolves kill cleanly, and we do not. They also kill quickly, and we have never done that, either. They fight, they win, and they stalk back to their ships with their tails held high. If they were ever ordered to destroy another Legion, they would do it by hurling warrior against warrior, seeking to grind their enemies down with the admirable delusions of the 'noble savage'. If we were ever ordered to assault another Legion, we would virus bomb their recruitment worlds; slaughter their serfs and slaves; poison their gene-seed repositories and spend the next dozen decades watching them die slow, humiliating deaths. Night after night, raid after raid, we'd overwhelm stragglers from their fleets and bleach their skulls to hang from our armour, until none remained. But that isn't the quick execution the Emperor needs, is it? The Wolves go for the throat. We go for the eyes. Then the tongue. Then the hands. Then the feet. Then we skin the crippled remains, and offer it up as an example to any still bearing witness. The Wolves were warriors before they became soldiers. We were murderers first, last, and always!" —Jago Sevatarion
