After a year and a half of swearing off 28mm because "its way too big to do anything fun and how could I have wasted so much time with it" ...I am back to 28mm.

Here are some pics of a little skirmish for Battlegroup Overlord using my newly painted Warlord minis.

Minor rules tweaks to accommodate my limited collection and prevent a game of 2 squads rolling dice at each other.

1. There are no force org restrictions.
2. Squads are combined in full (ie. BAR and Rifle) and then may be re-separated into as many teams of 3-5 models as you like.
3. Teams that are more than 10" away from their squad NCO become one less level of morale.
4. All weapons ranges are increased by 10".

As defenders, Axis may deploy anywhere in their table half if they are both in cover and 18" away from any Allied team.

Objective on the hill.

Americans (Regular)
Rifle Squad
FwHQ (Lt. Ramirez and SSgt. O'Donnell)
Combat Engineer Squad
Timed 81 barrage from three 81's
Support request (3+) three 81's

Germans (Veteran)
Grenadier Squad
FwHQ
Sniper Team
5 man Rifle team
Foxholes

Lt. Ramirez, I got something for you. Battalion S-2 seems to think that Jerry is spotting for arty from hill 107 to the south. Take a squad up there and put some boots on that dirt so I can get these clowns off my back will ya? Engineers should be floating around here somewhere, so grab some of 'em and take some explosives with you. If you run into Jerry dug in up there bury those where they lay and get back here in one piece. I'll have 81's cover your approach.

Roger Sir.

Lt. Ramirez and SSgt O'Donnell

81's impact hill 107 (a little big for 81s )

An MG 34 team lays in wait across the field.

Reinforcements arrive

Sniper

Combat Engineers in reserve

Not bad. Would probably play a little bit better with a light vehicle, a full platoon each, and another 2 feet of space. Once I get these new Warlord Germans in my grubby paws I'll put some more work into something proper, though I will probably get the Pacific done before they get here.

Maybe I missed it, but what was the outcome?

This really emphasised the virtues of 28mm - the smaller number of models made the battle look more realistic than most of what one sees in 15mm. Some of your photos were quite evocative (the natural light is cool too). Only one thing - the teddy bear fur is a bit distracting. Maybe dye it?

The Doughboys were winnig at the end but it was never finished due to rain..South Carolina weather this time of year is very unpredictable.

I really do love my 15mm BF plastics but as you said there really is some sort of virtue to 28. Im limited by collection at the moment but I plan on a full platoon for each side. Maybe my old GW habits die hard! I'm putting together the Warlord USMC as we speak. Amazing kit!

Man I've cut up that fur in 15 different test pieces to deepen it but without an airbrush I just can't figure it out. I know it looks very sterile as is but you should see the test pieces! Piers suggested dying it as well so that will be my next attempt, otherwise the way it looks now doesn't bother me enough to remove it quite yet. I just dont know how to do it. I paid 12 buck for a square yard of that's stuff some I'm not too worried about experimenting.

Anyways thanks for the words TG!

Yeah nicely presented game.

Perhaps some waters don PVA (wood) glue to stiffen the bear fur and give a surface for paint/dye to stick to.

Alternatively there's coil doormat. I pick a rubber backed one up a few months ago for a fiver for use with Mordhiem, so would work just as well with your 28mm models. + no paint need FTW!

Hmm good thinking on some watered PVA glue. I'll slather some on a test piece and see what happens.
