I made this new topic due to the fact that I was going through my codex and looking through my HQ choices and I stumble upon this ork prophet named Ghazghkull Thraka, I look at his stats a 2+ armor save and then a possible 2+ invunerable save, amazing right. Then I look at the point value and I have a mini heart attack.

He costs more than a mob of 30 ork boyz!!!! Not to mention the fact that if an enemy sees that guy on the board you can bet that they will try to take him out in the first round of the game. He just seems like a waste of points. I get that he has 4 wounds, his leadership and other stats are off the grid but he is just soooo expensive for just one character. What are your thoughts on this???

Me? I say take the 30 ork boyz and run.

I think you may be using an old ork codex. There are advantages and disadvantages to many beatstick HQs. Dante is a LoW as well and costs more than 30 ork boyz - but I'd usually rather have dante. A juggerlord with AoBF and sigil costs more than 50 mutants. I'd usually rather have the juggerlord. Quantity isn't always better than quality.

Yea dante is pretty good now due to eternal warrior and his power axe not being unwieldy

Ghaz is definitely an expensive character. He's pretty amazing on the one turn he calls his Waaagh! On every other turn... Not so much.

I'd personally rather have a Stompa as a LoW. However, in Waaagh! Ghazghkull there is a formation that gets him a nice li'l deathstar. I imagine he's a lot better with that. But then, that's also even more points.

We were the first 7-th codex and Ghaz was the first HQ to become LoW. They've probably overestimated his capabilities. You're almost always better off with a regular warboss as is. Ghaz might find a place in Large pt games like 2.5k+

I think part of the problem is that the Lucky Stikk is a bit nuts - making Ghaz's improved survivability look rather pitiful in comparison.

Necrons have 3 seperate choices for LOWs.

Sevrin Loth is the best melee HQ
Can spam 2+ invuns in himself,has a force axe (that benefits him),can spam invisibility,has a normal 2+ save,S6(due to force axe),all units have to take invuns in CC (as he has an AP2 weapon)
I think he might be able to take on lorgar (lorgar is annoying as he has the almost same stuff)

Like others said, he's a LOW not HQ so that's a thing. And yes he is pricey, and not as effective, especially compared to some of the other LOW's. But he's still fun to throw on the board and make your opponent shoot the heck out of him.

Sometimes table space is an issue. You can only fit so many boys around an enemy, and then quality starts mattering. I generally wouldn't touch ghaz until the high 2k mark though.
