Well.. not really! Looking to start pinning components just for while I airbrush/paint and need some advice regarding what to actually use as the 'pin'. Needs to be sturdy enough to push into a cork but small enough to be used with smaller components.

Let me know guys!

Obviously there will be variation considering different brands of paperclip, but what drill size would you suggest I use for said clip?

Thanks buddy

I personally use the drill bit that came with the gw drill before they replaced it, it is fairly small if that helps, maybe a tad bigger than the diameter of a small paper clip

I use cocktail sticks as painting handles and stick 'em into open-cell foam. Works well.

Buy a drill index of tiny drill bits (Dremel makes one and it goes for about $10) then drill some test holes to see which size fits the best for whatever you want to use to pin with. You should be able to eyeball which bit would work the best.

Sewing pins. Already straight, tough, and you can get a box that'll never run out for something like $4.

My $0.02, which since 1992 has rounded to nothing. Take with salt.

Or, just use the Cadillac option of brass rod. One bag of brass rod will last years, and they cost nearly nothing, so why not just use them, even if it's just temporary.

I buy them in bundles for $5, and I have 4 sizes; 2 of the sizes I almost never use to pin.

Gale force 9 sells a nice pinning set with brass rod and matched drill bits.

Paper clips come in a variety of thicknesses as do drill bits. I recommend you find a good supply of paper clips and then look for a drill bit to match.

Luckily enough, the paper clips from my local £/€/$-store fits perfectly with a 1mm drill bit.
