Internet wisdom says they are sub par.

Does anyone use them regularly?

Are they worth it as a single heavy choice in an all around list?

They're one of the legions with the lost Primarchs, their primarch currently wandering around dazed and confused in an alternate reality where he is known as Jean Luc Picard.

I use them regularly and in my experience, other variants are better. The AP3 is a detriment against vehicles, and, given the proliferation of cover, arguably worse than the Eradicator's ignores-cover AP4.

If you have the ability to get 2 russes or play unbound, you could ally an ABG command tank vanquisher with beast hunter shells for maximum TAC.

No. They are the ultimate "Mediocre at Everything, Master of Nothing" unit and they pay a premium for it. A single S8 ap3 blast does not accomplish much for the the price and it being ordnance means you can't even spend points to effectively up its damage. It does a max of a single hit of damage against vehicles or MC, and against infantry you'll do some damage but with cover making waste of the ap3 its just is all over costed.

They're overcosted because of their range and the Ordnance rule, which GW both seem to think are worth really big points. The problem is 72" is pretty useless in a standard 6'x4' game, and the Ordnance rule is a way more of a downside with having to snap-shot everything else.

I suppose in games on larger boards they could come in handy. But then why wouldn't you just use a Basilisk?

Actually if you read the rules a model with multiple weapons on it can pick the order the weapons are fired in. I don't know if this was intentional or not but the way the rule is written suggests you could shoot your Sponsons first and then the Battle Cannon since nothing says you have to shoot the Ordnance first.

19th Krieg Siege Army 7500pts.
40k/HH Night Lords 5000pts.
Orks Waaaghmacht Spearhead 2500pts.

Except that the Ordinance rules says explicitly that if you fire one with that rule, in whatever order, everything else will fire snapshots. :c

Actually, if you read the rules, it specifies "...a vehicle that fires an ordnance weapon can only make Snap Shots with its other weapons that turn." Doesn't say anything about can only snap shoot other weapons after it has shot ordnance weapons, just that if you want to shoot ordnance (ie, the battle cannon or the demolisher cannon), everything else you're shooting that turn snap fires.
