Per the topic heading.
I bought a bunch of Necron stuff at auction and I'm not sure what bases they're currently coming with. I'm trying to stick to strict RaW and base them how they're being sold. I might be using these models in tournament play some day and don't want to catch grief for using the wrong base size.
I'm unable to confirm right now, but my gut tells me the Exterminatus book showed Necrons on 32mm bases, but that they're still being sold with 25mm ones.

They are sold with either 25mm, 32mm or both depending on what you buy.
For example, if you buy a box of Warriors or Immortals, they come with 25mm.
If you buy the "Tomb Awakened" box, you get 32mm.
If you buy the Web Bundle, they come with both 25mm and 32mm bases so you can choose.
|
Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Word is that they are upgrading all the "power armor" class of models to 32mm. Now what they consider "power armor" I'm not sure, since warriors are not it

So far it seems like they're basing it on Toughness, with T4+ being upgrade from 25mm to 32mm.

From what I've heard they are using 32mm bases for models that look like they need to be on 32mm bases and its based entirely on the sculpt of the model and has nothing to do with the models characteristics. To be honest it makes perfect sense. There are some space marine models in wild poses or with large wargear that look to large for a 25mm base, but a tac squad usualy looks just fine.
As the ability to sculpt and reproduce more and more interesting and detailed designs continues to improve the models will get more exaggerated poses and actually get larger, eventually larger bases will be required to keep the model stable.

I bought a box of immortals from a GW store and while it did have 25mm in the box (old packaging) the manager gave me a bag of 32mm to correct it. He confirmed - at least in Aus - that this was happening in the GW stores

Then continue to use the old size. There are advantages to both. Sometimes a smaller footprint is better.

Well, I just don't want store leagues or any opponent complaining that I'm modelling for advantage or anything like that.

I have to say that I like the fact that Sanguinary Guard now come on 32mm bases. I've just gone through the trouble of rebasing my old ones onto 32mm bases and I'm happy because they actually now stand up and don't fall over very easily anymore.

Mine are on 25mm bases, and have not fallen yet (or that I can remember...)

Nah, just glue a washer to the bottom. It raises the base slightly, but not enough to call shenanigans, and it keeps it weighted down.

I use nickles. They fit perfectly and are probably cheaper than a buying a pack of washers.

Pennies work better. And they are cheaper.

I tried pennies on my hormagaunts once. I could get two underneath without raising the base. However they didn't feel as heavy as the nickles.

You can buy 32mm bases or you can get the adapters to put yours in. Those are 32mm bases with a 25 mm hole in them. You just put the old mini in and your good to go. Just have to flock the ring. You can find both of those on ebay.

FYI, two pennies (2.5g each) are exactly as heavy as a nickle (5.0g each). And if you're stacking them, they'll protrude downward farther, giving the model a slightly lower CG (though this effect is trivial).
