I was thinking of a huge stone race with lava flowing through it's veins that exploded and spews out molten rock when it takes wounds. CC monsters. Their armory would have lots of template/flamer weapons. They would be immune to fire damage and have built in armor saves. Something would have to balance them out though. Maybe they have no deep strike capabilities?

IDK just tossing it out there.

They sound cool to me Slow and Purposeful perhaps but nice idea.

I really liked the 'Ulumeathi' mentioned breifly in 40k fluff - a xenos race with advanced tech (Ulumeathi plasma syphon from codex grey knights) which got exterminated by the great crusade i think? theres a picture on page 198 of 6th ed BRB which shows some of the races discovered - pretty cool i think!

I heard on the battlebunnies blog that the great crusade encounterd a lot of insectoid races (which all had to die) so that would be a nice one to see.

I’d probably do an army of ‘space dwarfs’, let’s call them ‘squatters”.

They would be known as great craftsmen that ride three-wheeled motorcycles called ‘trikes’. No really, hear me out…

If I were to make a custom army, I would want something Similar to Tau.

A fully Robot-suited Army, but without the issues of sucking In melee. (It's a giant robot! it shouldn't suck at melee.)

The HQ would be a mobile repair/command base. Giving out support and healing wounds. The mechs would all have Slow and Purposeful (Fire Heavy Weapons while moving with no penalty), or a Multi-tracker(Fire two weapons a shooting phase).

Chain gloves! (you heard me) A giant glove where each finger is a chain sword, with working joints! (See a space marine survive after being picked up by that!).

I dunno, I could come up with a lot of crazy mecha ideas. But in the end they all just feel like the offspring of Spacemarine and Tau Tech. ((could you imagine? Tau & SpaceMarines working together!? They could own the universe!))

I'm working on a xenos faction that I'm calling the Rakshasa. They're symbiotic species consisting of a failed Old One race (they had psychic presence but were bad at channeling it) and a sort of psychic energy eating coral from the warp.

Their main mechanic is that, once per game, a unit can "charge" themselves by channeling their psychic energy through the coral that has fused with their body. This boosts the performance of their wargear, but they have to make a leadership test at the start of each of their turns. Once they fail the test, they've either overloaded themselves or simply run out of juice and cannot charge up again for the rest of the game.

They're also largely aquatic (their ships are filled with water making it hard to board them), so they take advantage of waterways and underwater combat when possible.

That said beyond the Dark Mechanicum (yes, the guys who put daemons in EVERYTHING to include their toasters), my vote would likely be Enoulians for their electrified crystal weaponry, or maybe the Dracolith because crystalline aliens.

Really there are a lot of interesting xenos races I'd like to see on the table, even if they were just allied armies.

The Metal Men, the automated forces that set out to explore, terraform, and colonize space for humanity. Sure they pulled a SkyNet and turned on humanity, plunging them back into the Dark Ages, but I'm somewhere out there some of them kept going.

So a race of Robots, not Space Undead, not Anime Mecha, robots.

I just thought about a chain smoking brachiosaurus commander spouting off orders between coughing. And raptorex conscripts running around shooting at people with their "flashlights".

I think a race of pure energy beings would be cool, but I'm not sure how to flesh the units.

Barring that, I would love a race of pure elementals. Kind of how the Chaos Daemons book functions, there would be 4 factions: earth, water, fire, and air. I think it would make for some really cool guys, especially when you start toying with the Warp and existing 40k technology and how that affects what forms the elementals take.

I did this once. The biggest challenge was that the only vehicles are superheavy flyers.

The newest movie had some vehicles that could be skimmers IIRC.

I'd just want an army of Squigs for 40k. Squig Rampage! Orks just leg go of all their leashes, pointing them at the enemy, and see what the heck happens!

Though if I had to create a totally new faction, I think I'd want something like...basically sentient creatures who sort of band together to fight for survival. I guess Beastmen in a sort of way, though they don't exactly have to be humanoid. They could be mutated animals, plants, etc, that merely wish to survive and thus band together to repel invaders on their planet(s).

Could have things along the line of Ents, possibly mystical creatures like a form of Kitsune, who are able to tap into the warp, etc. Not really fitting I suppose for the 40K setting, but something completely different than any faction yet.

A death world codex where the opponent battles against the local flora and fauna.

You'd be able to take packs of dangerous animals, big monsters and be able to deep strike carnivorous plants to represent the enemy being surprise attacked by the local vegetation!

Also terrestrial armies get too much attention. There should be an aquatic army (fishmen!?) that have to drive around in tanks full of water or find non-wet terrain to be dangerous! ~edit: following on this idea Why not Zoidberg for a playable race?
