First time painting miniatures, so I tried using an assembly line approach to painting these units. For myself I found this approach a bit draining. Ok one model painted this shade, now for another...and another...etc. It become a little monotonous. Any suggestions to avoid that going forward?

After reading more I realize before painting how I should drill holes in the bolters going forward. (what is an appropriate drill size for that?)

After taking a picture, I realized, really vividly, that I can see where the pieces fit together, which is really annoying. From reading people say "green stuff" is good for that. Would I just jam some in the crevices before I base coat the miniatures? What about "liquid green stuff?"

Any other tips on painting for the future are greatly appreciated, and any tips on how to properly base would be welcome. I have some cork boards for that, but how would I get the figures to stick to the cork? I have seen some people drill holes in the bottom of the figure, glue in a pin and jam them into the cork through the bottom of the base, is that method well received? Should I super glue these guys to the cork?

I've never had much luck with liquid green stuff myself. I loses too much mass in the drying process for my liking. Green Stuff is a two part epoxy putty that is varsatile and easy to work with for gap filling or sculpting.

There's a basing tut in my sig. Doesn't cover cork though. You can either glue the model directly to the cork (plastic only) or pin it. One pin will usually suffice.

Here's how I do my bases:
Airbrush black
Drybrush rubble (Cork) with ulthuan grey

Airbrush dirt with Rhinox hide
Drybrush with Bestial brown
Drybrush with snakebite leather
drybrush with tau light ochre
drybrush with ushabti bone
Mount the model by pinning

For pinning, what do you use? A piece of a jumbo paperclip? Do you pin it all the way through the base and bend it to keep it in place once its through the base or just enough so its through the cork?

I use jumbo paperclip and stick it all the way through (drill first), and superglue it in.

very well painted. i personally rarely pin to cork to paint them. sticking them to a paint pot with blu tak works just as well.
