Subject: Holofields & Shuricannon upgrade on Wave Serpents

I wanted to get some feedback on how you guys feel about these.
For example: I only ever field 2-3 Serpents with Scatter lasers, so I always put Holofields & shuricannons on them. I find the +1 jink & extra twin-linkable shots really makes the small number of Serpents potent.
However, I have heard a lot of players (mostly those that run 5+ Serpents) say that Holos & Shuricannons and not worth the points. I can see keeping them cheap to run more, but even if I ran 4-5 Serpents, I would at least run the Shuricannons. Wave Serpents (and Falcons) are the only units that can use Scatter lasers to twin-link more than 1 other weapon.
Thoughts?

holo is mandatory if you want to get an important unit across the board like fire dragons.
shuricannon usually isnt worth it since you'll only hit on 6s if you jink

I’m just getting back into eldar, so take this with a grain of salt.
I don’t think it’s worth the points for the ShurCan on the falcon. Even if you use the SC to TL it and the pulse, you can only fire two at full BS on the move. And that’s probably going to be the scatter and the pulse.
On the WS, I could see it if you didn’t want to fire the shield. So it’s a slightly more attractive option.
I’ve been enjoying my holofields. The +1 to the save seems worth the points.

I only move 12" in the first move. After that, I move 6" and can fire all weapons are full BS, but that is a difference in playstyle, i guess.
This is great though, I like hearing these different points of view.

I am a huge fan of Holo fields on my serpents, Cannons, not so much as I find I usually move 12 a turn with my serpents.

A standard spam lists benefits from more hulls than Holos. That is the only time you ever drop them, and only if you can't find something else to get rid of. Otherwise, they're manditory. What are you really going to do with 45 pts (in your 3 WS list)that's worth more than protecting your Obsec. Troops and Obsec. Transports in an objective game?
Shiricannons are personal pref. I, personally don't use them as it encorages you to get 12" closer than you would otherwise. And WS die in CC. I save 10pts (I think? Been forever since I took em) and prevent me from doing something dumb. Win win.

It is forbidden to kill; therefore all murderers are punished unless they kill in large numbers and to the sound of trumpets.

I agree if you are spamming serpents (4Plus, I think ghostwalk is better as you will have to eventually move into terrain to stay alive) with 3 my priority is keeping them alive, hence I take holos.

Well, I find both very useful.
I field usually five Serpents or so. I move them fiaster in the first round so that they are within 24" in turn two.
In this way they can fire all three weapons while keeping the enemy at arm's length.

There is approx 0 reason to not add firepower to your serpent for 10 points...It's going to be a twin linked shuriken cannon for 10 points. You don't need to fire it but once to pay for itself in most cases so I'd say both of these upgrades are mandatory. The rest you can probably do without and aren't worth their points. Maybe in some cases adding star engines to 1 or 2 serpents could prove to be valuable too or crystal targeting matrix. Not taking holos or cannons is silly though. Lets say you take 5 serpents and save 50 points buy not adding the cannons...okay...thats like 6 guardians - I'll take the cannons.

Ghostwalk Matrix is the first vehicle wargear I try to add (after uping it to a scatter laser of course). I find the chin cannon not worth it in most cases, and the holofields are rarely worth it. not to mention the holofields found in the harlequins book leads me to believe we'll be losing the +1 cover ion the next book anyway... but we'll see.

Recently, one of my Serpents killed a grounded DP.
11 hits, 9 wounds, gone.
Do the math if you like.

I typically run 1-3 Wave serpents and I always give them holo's and TL scatter lasers. Depending on the points, I give them shuriken cannons, but if I'm hurting to make the pts limit it's typically the first thing I cut. It's really a matter of preference. But if you're running 3 or less I'd thumbs up the holo's for sure

Agreed, if you like cannons for personal play style reasons it's ok. But it still needs to be the first thing cut to find points.
