Hey everyone! Lately, I have been in a Ork-crisis and I want to switch army. Everytime I play my Ork, I don't feel satisfied (when I lose, I lose, when I win, I feel like I was lucky lol). So I'm looking for a more all-rounded army to do some close combat fighting. I was thinking Space Marine, but which one?

What is the best army to roll a jet-packed assaulting army (thinking either Raven Guard or Blood Angels), why, and what kind of support they require?

I guess the other option owuld be a mid-range army like Salamanders. With 5man assault squad with double flamer lol.

I think Blood angels are far more better with sanguinary guards and priests.

Well, put simply, Raven Guard are faster (Scout on everyone, double-use Jump Packs), while Blod Angels hit harder (+1S, +1I on the charge with their special detachment) and have some more dedicated fast-assault units (Sanguinary Guard and Death Company). BA can also do 5-man-3-flamer Assault Squads (2 normal and a Hand Flamer) and can take Heavy Flamers in Tactical Squads, allowing for a Flamer/HF/Combiflamer or Hand Flamer (or two) setup at 10 men.

Raven Guard have the only way to make Assualt Marines Troops at the moment (Forge World Captain Korvydae, AM as troops if you take 1 Scout Squad).

If you're interested in being competitve, BA will do better as a CC army than Raven Guard, but if not then it just come down to whether you want the fastest SM army in the game overall (RG) or the best CC-orientated Marines with some neat tricks (BA).

Of course, you could just make a custom Successor Chapter of unknown origins and run them as either as the mood takes you.

I guess I could run both with the same models. the thing is, I have no idea what is good in eaither army lol. I would probably go with something like:

Stormraven Gunship x 2 (apply to both)
10 man Tactical marine x2 (apply to both)
Dreaghnough x2 (I could proxy BA variation and magnetize + buy bits for all weapon)

10 man Assault Squad x2 (Apply to both)

10 man Vanguard Vet (Death Compagny or Sanguinary guards as proxy - Or I just buy Sanguinary Guards and proxy them as Vanguard, whatever)

5 man devastator squad

Does that seem viable army list for both Blood Angels and Raven Guard? I could get that as a core for both, then invest more in the army I prefer/want to continue. (No I'm not that rich lol, but I'm sure I can get a good price for my Ork army once it's fully painted)

If you want Melee space marines you are looking in the wrong place. CSM are very adaptable and are the kings of power armored melee. Just my 2 cents and hey maybe if more people buy our models they will finally buff possessed.

With BA, you can take the Flesh Tearers formation. Take 1 unit of Scouts as Troops, you will then have 6 FA slots to fill with Assault Squads.
No need for a character.

How do you make a good melee Jump Pack army with CSM?
Raptors? How are they better than Assault Squads? Lords with JP? How are they better than Captains, CMs and several named characters, like Dante? Warp Talons? Please...

from what I read online, you basicly go for:
1 libraian Jump pack
1 Sanguinary Priest Jump pack
2 troop of minimum camo cloak Scout (for cheap troop)
4 squad of elite Jump pack unit (Death Guard and Sanguinary guard)

Raptors can take Melta Guns, but that's about their only advantage that Blood Angels can do anyway.

Blood Angels have actual dedicated jump pack assault tools, other Marine forces have better dragooning options but if you want to do a jump pack assault army Blood Angels have the tools to do it.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

Blood Angels are stronger in assault, but lack many useful tools that C:SM has, such as Centurions, TFCs, Chapter Masters and Bikes as Troops.
So basically, if you don't use any of those there's no real reason (besides fluff) to use Raven Guard.

True, but the only difference is having OS on the Assault Marines, which is not that important in the end.
And the FT formation benefits an assault army more.

CSM have a very decent infiltration madness build with huron/ahriman, cypher and a blob of marines. Basically, one of a few ways to make a unit of 20 marines decent. They also excel at mellee rushes with sorcs/lords, spawns, bikers, maulerfiends, etc.
If you're up to madness, CSM can make s8 chainsword marines. Khornates with a furious charge icon, Fabius bile for +1 str and a hammerhand sorc. Not that it's a sound tactix but it's fun to tear up landraiders and IK with chainswords. Personally, i find cheaper blobs more effective. Especially with Cypher's Shrowded and H&R.

Anywayz, if you want a mellee army, ravenguard aren't exactly mellee-oriented in the first place. They just get scout to position themselves better and get a hold of the board early on. Blood angels are much more focused on mellee.

I think it really comes down to your playstyle and what units you CAN"T use. Until codex BA dropped I was playing red-armor SM and came to love Thunderfire Cannons, Stormtalons and Devastator Centurions. But since I'm a dedicated BA player I've been learning to listbuild without the TF, Stormtalon and centurions. I've since decided to create a small allied force from SM, just so I can use those units.

I'm not a competitive (tourney) player so I definitely embrace the finer fluff aspects of BA, such as Death Company, Sanguinary Priests and Guard. And Dante is a BEAST! I've only played one game with him, but he was a blast to have on the table.

But I'm with Paradigm here, if you want the best of both worlds, make up an unknown-origins successor chapter, and work with both chapter tactics, and see what floats your boat. Death Company and Sanguinary Guard models are definitely a way to give a non-BA chapter some zaz on the tabletop.

Good luck, have fun and I hope this helps. Cheers!
