PLEASE go to page 2 for revised format. Thank you , apologies for any confusion . Our group has been putting in work with the play testing for the format. From what I've seen I think this format is a lot more fun to play than some of the other tournament formats. Every player has different ways to win or at least accrue points over the course of the tournament. Again any and all feedback welcomed and appreciated.

Alright - is 0-1 forgeworld allowed so I don't have to proxy a storm raven with a fire raptor ?

And please dear god make it the 18th , or at least the 11th or the 25th... but the 18th would be awesomeeeeeee!

Hi , no limit on forgeworld at this one. I reviewed the adepticon maelstrom cards and they seemed a little more balanced then the ones from the rule book. Also they are a huge event so I tried piggy backing off some of the good things they have done and add some of my own ideas. Our next one should be end of April . Trying just have to confirm with the store. Kim and I will be play testing it as well. What do you guys think?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Fidel I originally tried for 18th but there is some magic event already scheduled. We are shooting hopefully for 26th.

Guys quick update. After play testing the format and getting some input we have changed the scoring for the primary to go from 5 to 7 pts. Reason being players felt the primary was minimized in the overall scoring system. So now if you win the primary the worst you could do is tie (provided both armies are painted).
Kim and I will be putting in some more play testing . We are really working towards a format that is fun to play and gives everyone a chance. I think participation for 40K tournaments is way down from what I remember when I started playing. No one wants to show up for an event and get steamrolled every game. I think a lot of players are discouraged by the meta and chose not to come out for an event.
I'm working on trying to get in a format that's balanced and fun and get in an event every 6 weeks or so.
As always any feedback is welcomed and appreciated.

The problem is there are still a lot of cheeseball stuff in the game and its salt and peppered here and there so it is hard to pin point. It is not just the formations. The Decuion and Adman Lance are pretty bad. However, on the opposite end it seems like some of the dark eldar or blood angel options may only be able to function within the sensible formations. So removing formations nerfs some harder than others. Allies are another issue, some armies are very reliant on allies to work. (stormtroopers, grey knights, or Dark Eldar) It is possible that some of the imperial books are even being designed to rely on the battle brother advantage and take things like Inquisition, knights, or assassins. Meanwhile, Eldar can get pretty cheeseball with just Wave Serpent Spam alone. So even with just one CAD, there are still ways to get steam rolled by a rough list.

There really should be a comp system of some kind a la fantasy, but tailored to time warps meta. On the plus side, I have been to your store to play a bunch of times and your regulars are pretty good about bringing reasonable lists. The only way is to keep gathering data from these events. Perhaps a survey asking players what they thought worked or didn't post tournament. Then you can see if FW was good idea. In addition, it could help determine what to add.

Another way could be to reduce the points size. Expensive units like Land Raiders kind of struggle at higher points costs. The reason being it is easier to spam lascannons the higher you go. No one wants to bring a transport that costs 200+ points if it gets destroyed or immobilized first turn of the game. It is at least something to consider.

Good points Ned . For DE my weekly sparring partner plays them and usually beats up on me pretty bad with one of the formations. I forgot which one. From the feedback from last event was that people enjoyed Maelstrom but felt it was a little too random straight out of the book for compititve play. The one source everyone seemed to like as a bit of a novelty.
For next event we are considering self ally or battle brothers only. No Allies of convenience , desperate or CTA. Those lists are just cheese and fluff killers. I'm not a fan of taking tau for whatever my army is missing.
