Subject: Space Marine Dread Army

Mighty Chosen Warrior of Chaos

Hi guys,
I have a small Grey Knight force and am looking at starting a Space Marine army. Too long have I ignored my passion: Dreadnoughts.
I will be creating my own chapter so I can create my own fluff and colour scheme (both of which will somewhat tie in with my current GK army). But who should I be a successor chapter of?
I considered both Blood Angels and Dark Angels, but I think I'm leaning towards "vanilla" Space Marines at this point. Particularly Ferrus Manus and the Iron Hands seem like a good choice for both fluff and tactics.
Who do you think makes the best all/mostly Dread army?
I'm interested both tactically and fluff-wise.

Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee. |

To be honest, i think CSM can do dread army better utilising helbrute formations, maulerfiends and supporting them with psy powers and summoned daemons. Can actually be pretty brutal.
About sm army - if you want to go heavy on dreads, SW look decent. Also, droppodded dual-heavy flamer ironclads are effective.
Iron hands provide IWND but from my experience it rarely matters.

From FWs free download page. Siege Assault Vangard list and FOC
Let's you bring talons of siege Dreadnoughts as troops, as long as you bring a MotF, you can also field Dreadnought heavy support. Im not sure you could or couldn't but maybe bring a chaplain dread as an HQ

Anything which gets you access to AV13 front walkers. That extra AV point over your basic dreadnought makes all the difference in combat.
CSMs have the formations as discussed above. With some demon friends they also give you access to Soul grinders which tick the AV13, anti-airs and ordinance (if you pay for it) boxed. You can get the HQ on an AV12 chariot to keep with the armoured feel of the force.

Space Wolves can make an all dread army if you really wanna go whole hog. Champions of Fenris can be made from just an HQ (Bjorn) and elites (as many dreads of various varieties as you want).
If you are fine with a few troops then my opinion Clan Raakan makes the better dread army. 5+ IWND on a bunch of dreads (via the relic that increases IWND roll by 1 within a bubble) is pretty good.
Both are also legal at events (the siege assault list is not currently legal at most events).

Space Marines have the option to take Dreads as either Elites, or as a Heavy Support option if you have a MotF. You can do silly things like run 6 Ironclads in drop pods.

personally, I enjoy crimson fists. It seems to fit their fluff a bit better - lots of veterans, and besides, if you take Kantor there is little reason not to go unbound.

No rediculous not-entombed-in-a-walking-coffin shenanigans here. 11 Dreads and 7 pods. Not enough front AV 13 thoughbut you can't have everything. Not sure if the Furious George dread can have another heavy flamer for 10 points, but if so, well, there's 10 points to spare, so do that.
