You know, I keep looking at the model, and based on the model of the siege shield itself, I kinda feel like that addition should give the vindicator some sort of frontal armor bonus, whether that be increasing it's frontal armor value by +1, or maybe some sort of bonus to a roll or something.

I'm not basing that on tactics, or point values, obviously if it did something like that, those values could change, it's just when I look at it, the model really does look like it should actually equal something more than tissue paper. It stands to reason if it can clear terrain, it should at least have a special rule for shielding.

Anybody else ever think that?

I mean, look at that thing.

Vindicators are AV 13. I think more than that would be cheap. Plus, most actual dozer blades are pretty thin, I don't know how much that would add against melta or rockets.

I could see maybe giving it a "free" hull point that absorbs one penetrating hit, but after that you lose the re-roll Immobilized results.

I could see that. Nothing really game breaking, I just kept staring at it thinking, man that thing really oughta actually "do" something other than clear rubble.

Most dozer blades I've seen are very solid hunks of metal. I could totally see that giving some extra protection.

Upgrade it to have a dozerblade too so it gets +1 armour for ramming (not that 13 and 14 are any different when it comes to ramming )

Doesn't the Siege Shield count as a dozer blade in addition to its own rules?

Dunno. In my BA codex, where I was looking at it, the only thing it says about it, is auto pass dangerous terrain tests. It is only 10 points though, so at that cost I don't expect more from it, but I do wonder why it doesn't count for more even if they wanted to upgrade the cost some.

I've long felt that this should be the case. The Predator has AV13 too, and I really think that huge shield should be enough to add AV14.

I seem to recall the siege shield counting as a dozer blade in the old vanilla codex. Maybe things have changed.

I'm 99% sure that old vindicators used to be AV14 front.

i think it would be cool for the shield to add an armour point but i think if anything were to happen it would be something like an extra roll, for example if it suffers a penetrating hit on its front roll a d6 and on a 5 + the damage is saved.

this is just an idea so if you have any improvement i would like to hear them.

all in all i think you are right it should add an armour point

Vindicators are AV13 front, I think that's a sufficient boost over a regular rhino/razorback/whirlwind and puts it on par with a predator.

Fluff wise, I guess it just depends how the dozer blade is made. Your average dozer blade wouldn't provide a lot of protection against armour penetrating rounds that are powerful enough to penetrate the actual hull anyway, though it might help protect against high explosive rounds. Certainly it might stop regular anti-infantry bullets, but those bullets are barely going to put a dent in the tank anyway. But I could believe the Vindicator shield is some magical ceramite dozer blade especially designed for the task of deflecting shots.

Remember that if you look at the actual Vindicator model, its front is pretty solid even without the shield.
