Do vehicles get the 4+ cover save from behind an Aegis Defence Line?

Reference would be appreciated, thanks

Vehicles benefit from anything that blocks 25% of their facing. The Aegis is LoS based cover. Ergo, vehicles which are 25% obscured by it get the save.

How long is a piece of string?

As others have noted, this is not a yes or no question.

The answer is "It Depends".

and it depends on the vehicle being 25% or more obscured from at least one firing model.

So this is not a question we can answer for you, you will have to get a models eye view and see for yourself.

Your question would be better phrased as, "Do vehicles get the 4+ cover save from behind being obscured by an Aegis Defence Line?"

This also highlights that there is no "front" or "back" to cover--it always gives cover to any obscured model, regardless of who bought the piece of terrain.

I played a game at the weekend against a Shadowsword behind an ADL. When looking at it the Shadowsword was about 4" in height at the tallest part and the shortest part of the ADL is 1". So even a Shadowsword will get a cover save being behind it. Although I'm not sure it will get the 4+ from the line or the 5+ for just being covered.

Interesting that this came up. I was packing up my marine army which included an old Mk-1 LR and an aegis wall. My son commented that the LR might not get the cover save. I think he's right... those old Mk-1's are really tall & may not be sufficiently obscured by the wall to get the bonus. (unfortunately we didn't measure at the time)

Something I considered was placing the short pieces of the Aegis line backwards in the center of the long pieces, so the entire line was the maximum height and relatively straight for the sake of vehicles behind it. Is this a good way to give cover to larger vehicles, or did I miss something?

Interesting thought... I don't see anything wrong with it. I wonder how many vehicles would actually benefit from it.

I guess it depends on how your opponent interprets 25% cover. Part of the reason I came up with the idea was because I had opponents who would say my Dreadnought didn't get a cover save right up next to the line, and my options were to accommodate them or not play them (40k players aren't very common in my area).

Get a ruler and measure it for them. That should decide the matter.

From what I remember it says that the Aegis does suggest that it is all connected together without any gaps beginning to end. I think it's possible to do that but it means you need to link up the front line and the back line to do it.
