Raging Ravener

Looking into getting a Baneblade and was wondering what is considered to be the "best" variant. Seems like they are all dependent on your opponent/your own army, but seeing as I can't buy a bunch of baneblades I was wondering which one is the best in general.

You buy one and magnetize the main gun, so you can use any of them.

Hard to say.
I have a Shadowsword since it has a 5'' D blast weapon.
However, in our apoc games, Baneblades get often destroyed rather quickly.

Magnetize it
I personally think the Stormsword. S10 AP1 10" Blast Ignore Cover will murder anything underneath it.

A lot of them have different tops/back areas, are they easily swapped out with the other variants?

Most versatile is the good old stock Baneblade... it has a turret, you know.
In given situations the specialists thrive, but I'll take the stock variant with extra sponsons and 100 conscripts at max cohesion surrounding it at all times.

Does that also have primary weapon or ordnance by any chance?

I personally like the basic Baneblade the best. It's got a good amount of raw firepower, can reasonably engage just about anything, and has a backup ordnance gun.
The others are usually somewhat specialized or simply outright cheaper with less capable weaponry or have transport capacity.

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts. |

Best General contender would be the st10 ap1 ignore cover one
Seems to get a bit of EVERYTHING and helps ignore jinks to boot.
D weapons are cool too so magnetize all the things.

But does it get primary weapon or ordnance? Because they are huge on a st10 ap1 ignores cover blast of large sizes (so says the 2 times I've proxied a typhon ;-))

yeah, for an Apocalypse game the range us underwhelming. For a normal game as a Lord of War, the range shouldn't be an issue at all.

Obey the lama.
Yup.
Take the time. Lose some hair from the top of your head. Dont spend over $100 and build ONE big tank. Yes, making the top swaable may be hard, but how hard core is your gaming group when it comes to rules?
Remember, you can buy the baneblade sponson sprue from GW so you can make a simple swap from HB to HF with out much fuss. Heck, drop more money and be able to rock out all the sponson options.

While we are on the topic, does any one know the specific differences between the FW Stormsword and Shadowsword vs the GW kit? Do the FW kits come with multiple configs?

Personally I'm a huge fan of the Stormlord. Vulcan Megabolter is awesome, especially since the thing can fire it twice. On top of that it is also a pseudo-open topped transport that holds 40, letting 20 fire out of the top. Feels like it has the most versatility in that regard, as not only does it pump out fire with it's main gun and all those sponsons, but also whatever you throw in the bay.

The FW kits do not come with multiple options, but if you have the plastic guns you may be able to swap them. You will NOT, however, be able to change it to any of the variants with the rear passenger section since the entire center hull is a single piece from front to back. The differences:
1) A nicer looking resin gun instead of the plastic version.
2) Better hull detail and design around the driver's hatch.
3) The top section is placed farther back, like on the old Mars-pattern tanks, which looks better IMO.
4) The engine section is moved back a bit (because of #3) and has a lot more detail, including visible engine parts under the top hatches.
5) The small fuel drums are replaced with larger ones.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

Thanks Peregine.
That's to bad the FW kits don't have multiple configs. On the plus side, the FW kits are the more useful variants. On that note, how many of the 7 variants in the GW kit actually get used?
OP should make this Topic a poll.

I like the Stormlord because of the available utility, but all the variants have their uses depending on what you're fighting.
