Hi, Here's my techpriest enginseer since I just came back from quite a few years of NOT painting (I'm a bit rusty), may touch him up a bit still, plus bear in mind my lighting set-up and camera suck. Annoyed at how it comes out in pics.. looks really better IRL

Beautiful. I'm a huge fan of that miniature, I painted one just because I liked it so much so I'm very happy to see it getting some more love.
I really dig your style, the metal he has looks old, worn and the blue cables and light really pop against the metal and red.
Only thing I'd consider an upgrade would be to highlight the red a bit more until an "orange-y" red.

Btw anyone has advice on how to set-up properly for mini pictures ? Do you guys shoot from close up or farther away and zoom in, lighting, etc.

It's not really brass though it looks like it, really does look brassy more than gold though, which was the objective : Base : Balthasar Gold Wash : Nuln Oil 1st Highlight : Auric Armor Gold (very thin one, well diluted) 2nd Highlight (edges only) : Runefang Steel.

If you run a search on Dakka, there are a number of threads and articles on the topic. The main thing is lighting - more is always better. Full-spectrum ('daylight') bulbs put out a ton of white light (fluorescents have a blue tint, incandescents a yellow tint), which is great. Bright, white light enhances color clarity and having two or three shining from different angles will erase shadows and let you increase shutter speed, which makes avoiding blurry pictures easier. As for distance and zoom, many recommend getting right up close and using macro mode. I think a little more distance is preferable, as it helps avoid having too shallow a focal range (one element is super crisp while another is totally out of focus, since it's slightly closer or farther from the lens).
Really, though, your pictures aren't too bad. A bit of a yellow cast and some shadows, perhaps a bit too high contrast, but everything is nicely framed and focused.
As for the mini, apparently you were well oiled. Even after a few years of inactivity, you don't appear all that rusty!

I see, I'm more used to real scale pictures myself, so I see what you mean, thanks a ton for all the wonderful advice, I really appreciate it.
