Yes. And he's a Character, so can be your Warlord. You'll need to buy a Codex if you want to see the details.

I've always thought it a bit weird that you can get HQ Dreadnoughts to begin with. I know that Space Wolfs have Bjorn and Salamanders have Ashmantle as well but I don't consider them to have the linguistic skills in order to communicate commands while they are encased in their dreadnoughts.

However, yes, Librarian Dreadnoughts are now HQ units

You should read the Soul Drinkers books by Ben Counter. I don't want to spoil anything, but an extremely lucid Dreadnought is central to the plot (but doesn't appear until late in the series).

Sure, some Dreads are basically infants in giant robot suits, but others retain all of their mental faculties. Librarian Dreads are among the latter.

Interesting. It's probably just an impression I got when playing the Dawn of War games in regards to the robotic voices they attached to dreads when you built them or activated them.

If you have the internet, you have access to the Codex. You can go to www.games-workshop.com and buy it. If you play 5th Edition, you might want to stick with the older Codex. The new one was written for 7th Edition and will have rules in it that didn't exist in 5th (detachments, formations, Lords of War, etc.)

Or, as an equally enjoyable alternative, you could gouge your own eyes out with a rusty spoon.

The point is valid, though... there are numerous examples in the fluff of quite lucid dreadnoughts.

Books are that bad?

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

The first one is. I never bothered with the others.

To be fair, the basic premise (Space Marines gradually led to Heresy through the machinations of Chaos without them realising it) is a good one... it was just done so ham-fistedly as to be utterly ridiculous, and the story as written relies on the main protagonist (a Chief Librarian, who would supposedly be somewhat guarded against Chaos's wiles) being an utter, utter idiot.

But for serous though Kaptin, why ask a question assuming people will help you? The obvious solution is to buy the codex!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Even if you are just curious!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No reason as a hobby group we should share our collective experience when we can just tell you to buy a codex instead of help.

The first one is mediocre at best. They get much better as the series goes along. And it's not really Chaos that leads them astray...

Spoiler:
One of their own, the legendary Marine who wrote their equivalent of the Codex Astartes in the past, and who has been thought dead for many centuries, is eventually found in a Dreadnought chassis. He's the one who orchestrated the whole thing. He's the heretic, working in the shadows to corrupt his entire Chapter. I don't remember all the specifics, but he basically makes the deal with Chaos. It's not Abnett, but it's not terrible.
