It is bigger and has a bigger base... So does that mean the old ones can't be use anymore(summoning and etc)?

No. If you own and old one, it's still fine to use.

Well to be fair, it points out that tournaments may have their own houserules on it

I'm planning on a two new thirster army, so when I get to summon one it will be the older one. I'll check he's got his reading glasses, cane, etc as he totters onto the field

Really?

Models that were once historically supplied with smaller bases (e.g., older Terminators) are still legal models; although it is REQUIRED that you update them to the current base size for the applicable game system.

Different for different tournaments. I would probably just magnetize the larger base around the old one (and maybe put a sweet diorama of a grey knight dying a horrible death)

Aren't the actual model size different as well? I remember a picture of four variations of the Bloodthirster, but I don't know enough about Daemons to recognize how current the one before the new one was. The very old one was tiny (obviously obsolete), and the Forge World was massive, but the two in the middle (new one and another one) had a significant size difference. What are the chances that the old Bloodthirster will be forced to be a Unit: Bloodthirster while the new models are allowed to be Unit: Bloodthirster of Unfettered Rage and the other new variants? Different model, different name, different unit, why would a tournament allow a proxy just because it shares half the name?

Yea the new one is a lot taller and bigger so there will be a cover save issue.

Actually summoning- possession still summons an old regular bloodthirster so using the new model wouldn't be quite the same.

Whereas using the daemonkin, you always summon a bloodthirster of unfettered Rage, which is the bigger one.

And using them in a daemons list- they are ALMOST exactly the same rules wise, but unfettered rage doesn't have the line about taking daemon princes of khorne as heavy support.

But thats all stupid, as at the end of the day a bloodthirster is a bloodthirster and any tourny that rules differently is being ridiculous.
