In a no points limit (assumed to be greater than 30K total), Apocalypse game, with D-Weapon, AP3 / AP2, Massive / Apoc Blasts / Hellstorms aplenty, along with many many Super Heavies; which Necron Units would still be worth fielding?

I'm assuming Infinite Phalanx formation, along with C'Tans, Destroyers, Doomsdays, Deathscythes, Monoliths, and Wraiths? With Decurion?

Thoughts? Thanks!

A 30k game...I'd finish my turn 1 then shoot myself... reanimate 2 hours later... see that we're still on turn 1... then shoot myself again. lol.

Anyway, I'd say full units of Warriors would make a solid iron wall. Then take Heavy Destroyers, Stalkers and Pylons to hurt big stuff from ranged. Take a lot of Stalkers to give all those Warriors and Heavy Destroyers a buff to their BS. Throw in Crypteks with each Warrior unit to give them +1 RP.

That's your anvil.

Your hammer will be as many Wraiths or Tomb Blades as you can field.

Infiltrate Flayed Ones to prevent your warriors from getting caught in assault.

Maybe sprinkle in a C'tan or two for fun.

Good points but the concern I have is that the range on the HGC of the Destroyers and Stalkers is still 'only' 36".

Whereas the Doomsday is 72" and most LoWs can't hit the Deathscythes.

This. Otherwise, we have nothing that performs well in Apocalypse against Titans and the like. Everything we have has been nerfed for regular games.

Wraiths and Pylons as far as the eye can see.

Otherwise.. spamming destroyer cults?

Jasper probably hit it on the head though. If you spammed TC's you'd probably be best off.

Decurion is a must have.
The entropy strike stratagem is what I'm usually taking for taking on the enemy war master.

This, and maybe some flyers. Very little outside of superheavies/artillery/flyers is worth taking in Apocalypse, except maybe some meatshield infantry to stand in front of the important stuff. Your biggest limiting factor is time* and infantry units just take too much time per model to do anything. If you can move/shoot/assault with 500 points of superheavies/GCs in the same amount of time it takes to move/shoot/assault with a 100 point infantry unit then why take the infantry? You probably won't even have time to move or shoot with your meatshield units, but at least they'll take up space and keep incoming threats at a safe distance.

*Untimed Apocalypse is for masochists. Unless the game has clear time limits for each phase it immediately becomes a disorganized mess and you'll be lucky to finish a single turn. Expect 10-15 minutes per phase if you want to get through more than 1-2 turns per day.

I prefer Night Scythes for anti air and bringing units close to objectives.

Just a quick update. Played the Apoc game. Other side had like 18 Knights, a billion IG Tanks and Artillery, Thunderwolves, etc.

Our side had, lots of flying Tyranids, Stompas, large LoW Daemons, etc.

Anyway, even with Decurion, everything without an Invul Save or Flying was dead by Turn 3. Warriors, Immortals, Blades, Destroyers, Doom Arks, Flayed Ones, Barges, Stalkers, Monoliths - over 4000 points of Necrons all dead.

Only the Wraiths, the Warlords, Burning Conclave and DoomScythes survived. Just something to think about for Apoc games.

Yeah, against 18 knights Necrons aren't gonna do much. They took away our shticks for apoc.

Hey, at least you guys have Reaver Titans through Forgeworld. Heck, CSM have a ton of Forgeworld stuff in general.

CSM has a MASSIVE amount of FW stuff, and until the errata is out, they stole the greater brass scorpion (which is amazingly fun) from Daemons.

Necrons though... yeah I mean. The big pylon thingies?

I would probably just go with a lot of flyers, if you have them. Deathscythes should be pretty nice. Doomsday cannons are cool.

Do you think it would have been different if you brought Crypteks w/ Chronometrons to give infanrty units an Invul. Or do you think those units were just doomed?

It's apoc.
You show up with either Titans and Super heavies, or invulnerable saves and flyers.
Anything else is just wasting time.

For necrons, that would be Night Scythes, Doom Scythe, and wraiths.

When you run out of those models, start taking minimum sized units with a Lord attached, with warscythe and phase shifter. Run your destroyer lords as well, again with scythe and phase shifter.
