Didn't see this mentioned anywhere else, in a welcome break from 'store closing in x' threads of yet another wargaming store closing of recent years, Wayland Games have opened a new store in Southend, Essex.

Believe store opened a few days ago, on the site of a GW that was closing down (although not sure what the gap was between the one closing and other opening).

That's pretty cool and considering how malstocked their site seems to be the store looks like it has everything for the systems on show which is great!

Hoping they look at Colchester.. or even better Ipswich down the road.. Southend is a little far for me... and we could sure as hell use a good gaming store in Ipswich.

There's already a good FLGS in Colchester, 4TK gaming.

I think I did read that there are plans to open further stores over the coming years.

tigerstyle - the new website is a lot better now, has stock counts for everything.

They even did 3-4-2 and 10% off on opening day; old skool GW opening styley.

Of course I had to be on my blooming holidays at the time! :(

Hmm.. tried to find 4TK on street view.. seems to indicate its in a house.. so not actually found it to have a look; although I only get to Colchester two or three times a year when taking the little ones to the zoo anyway.

The Wayland Southend store does look good from the facebook pics mind, if I ever get that far south I'll certainly take a look.

4TK was in a shop location on the edge of Colchester. I think they moved to a warehouse type building recently (not been there since 6th ed 40k released).

They are in an industrial unit off Greensted Road, near the Hythe.

I'm not living there any more, but I've popped in when I've been back visiting parents, and it's ace. Loads of stock for a number of different games, and places to play. Seems really friendly as well.

Thanks for noticing OP.

It is the first (second actually) in a chain. The next 2 stores are in progress already. Obviously a store will not be able to stock everything a large web store can but we will vary ranges carried in any particular store on local gamers preferences. They will be clean, bright and friendly places and we hope.

We don't mind competition so don't be surprised if we open where it can be proven there are gamers already. We also will be trying to get into major cities across UK as there are for some reason a vacuum of games stores in them.

Does this mean you will be actively going for places where there is a FLGS, like Colchester for example?

I went along on Sunday to have a look (needed some bases too!) but it was shut. I think I confused the TTN location hours despite having a good search on the various websites.

Rich, can you link the actual opening hours?

It's a bit different going up against GW, who more than ever do not give a feth about if a store is making cash, than a store that's trying to survive as a FLGS and help a community.

I had the chance to pop along yesterday, as it's always nice to see a new shop taking form. I got a friendly greeting, and from the few other folk around at that point it was clear to see that the store is being built with an emphasis on community. The painting area with dedicated lamps at the back was a particularly nice touch, along with a set of nice gaming tables in the front half.

I did feel that the GW stock-holding could have been a tad more extensive (although a busy weekend may have had something to do with that), especially considering their neighbours, but there was a good range of WM/H, Infinity and Bolt Action on show.

Congratulations to all at Wayland, and good luck in their further expansion.

All that needs doing is a new entry in the Store Finder.
The old store is still on there, but I'd leave it to the best person to do that, as he's on here already.

New stores are always a good sign.
Even a downgrade shows there's life in the business.

I agree, there could be a bit more clarity on what you are looking at on Facebook - I seemed to keep getting link back to the TTN store.

Also, if you're open to suggestions, might be nice to make more of your stores on the front page of your webpage!

But, great news to see new stores opening and plans for more to come. It's been painful to see stores closing in the South West here (Total Wargamer and then Cut'N'Thrust). There now isn't a proper gaming store in the South West/Bristol, which is absolutely nuts considering the total population, so hoping the crosshairs will fall on this part of the country at some point!

For Bristol try Bristol independent gaming on clothier rd I went there for a malifaux tournament a few weeks ago and it's seems like a good new venue that will expand as support is given by the local community.

Cool will check that out, something that has been bugging us is a lack of a good gaming store. We have a very very good local shop but they cant always stock everything and sometimes you want to look before you buy.
