Example: A space marine captain takes 15 savable wounds. He saves all of them.
Is that instant death? Sounds like it should be to me.

No. Why would it be?

Because of the amount of wounds he has taken.

While this game has a lot that does a great job of making the game realistic, you must remember that it is still a game, and bound by the rules. And the rules for instant death are very clear. Simply "dealing a lot of wounds" is not instant death, because the game never says that it is. It is entirely possible that the person saves each and every save, or maybe it's a character with multiple wounds and saves all but one, but unless that one attack had the rule Instant Death, then it wasn't instant death.

You seen the movie robocop? When he's in the cocaine warehouse and all those bullets are just pinging off his armour? That's like an armour save being repeatedly successful.
If a bullet got through then it could wound him by damaging a surviving organ/heart, but may not. That is a to wound save. The game just has them the wrong way around.

Also I wouldn't be very happy if I was a tau player and you scored 15 bolter wounds against my fnp riptide and I just had to remove it.

You only "take" a wound when you fail all associated saves. Just because an opponent might have a lot of chances to make you take a wound doesn't mean they've actually caused them til saves are failed.

I don't know where you're getting this from, but no, it's not Instant Death.

Vanished Completely

There is a big flaw in your logic here:
Wounds Generated at the To Wound step are not representative of the amount of Wounds the Unit has suffered.

Rule as Written is straight forward: Nothing informs us that a massive number of potential Wounds on a single Model is treated any differently then a small number of Wounds on a single model.

Fluff is even covered by the Rulebook:
Armour Saves represent shots that do not wound the Model because the armour defected or absorbed the blow before it could Wound
Invulnerable Saves represent shots that do not wound the Model because some sort of energy field destroyed the shot before it could Wound
Cover saves represent shots that hit against intervening terrain before it could Wound

There is even the below to consider, written into the very Rulebook itself, which shows some shots are never fired in the first place if they are saved:
A successful cover save in this case might mean that the firer has not shot at all, missing the fleeting moment when the target was in its sights.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.

If he saved them all, he hasn't taken any wounds.

Nope. Chalk it up to luck, the hits missed or fleshwounds or grazes but he is still alive regardless.

I had 5 PA GKs take 54 Wounds and I almost removed them from the table with out rolling but I wanted to see how dead they were. I rolled all 54 3+ armor saves and didn't lose a single one.

It was crazy the necron player surrendered.

Probably rolled a couple of necron warrior blobs together

More likely a 50-man blob squad with FRFSRF.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

I once had a Chapter Master go 36 or so saves before failing one... He then passed his FNP... Lol, I almost felt bad.

No, instant death is only caused either when the strength of the attack is twice the target's toughness or more or when the attack has the "Instant Death" special rule.

It was 2 full squads of Necron warriors behind an aegis def line. He should have technically shot both separate but there was nothing else in range so he rolled them all tghr to save time.

I had just disembarked from a land raider and killed his Ctan with them so I was willing to let them all die. To killt hat damned Ctan that was causing me problems.

He didn't really even surrender right after that he let my Purg squad fire their 4 flamers at the war blobs. It kill ever last one in both squads b/c unfortunately for him they were all bunched.

EDIT add - Oh you can doubt all you want I don't really care. I could give references if I cared enough there were 5 or 6 people there watching but meh. I am know for great dice rolling. I don't why some people just seem to roll better than others. I rem in the roll playing game Street Fighter I rolled 12d10 and rolled all 10s. The Gm and the players just stared for a good minute long. The odds are 10 to the 12th power. The sad part that was against a minion and not the boss.
