With the release of Khornate, Harlequinns and Skitarii codices, it seems that GW is currently on the trend of expanding each faction in the game; be it by creating mni-codexes of new units or by mix-and-matching existing units to form new armies. This is probably to expand players' options and to get them/us to start using the allies matrix more, and perhaps to better engage/make use of the fluff. With that in mind, what do you think/want to see GW to come up with?

Personally, I think the Xenos races are probably the ones most in need of new sub-factions, owing to their lack of options with regards to Battle Brothers. Some of the things that would be kind of cool would be:

Tyranids:
- Genestealer Cult: Almost guaranteed to be popular amongst players. Essentially either a mixture between Tyranid and Imperial Guard units, or a mini-dex of all-new units, with the option to be BB with both, Imperial Guard and Tyranids; with lots of Psykers and Synapse creatures.

Orks:
- Freebooterz: Space-faring, pirate-themed Orks. That in itself would probably guarantee the models' popularity even if they fail in performance. Army-wise, I imagine them to be shootier army with access to drop pods (looted or Space Roks) and hopefully slying spaceships with sails made of sheet metal.

Tau:
- Alien Auxillia: Kroot Merceneries have long been speculated. If you add in Vespids, Humans and Demiurgs, there should be enough to come up with a small mini-dex worth of units.

Necrons:
- C'Tan Legion: Imagine a desperate/reckless Overlord who finally decides it's time to bring out the other C'Tan Shards beyond just the Deceiver and Nightbringer; leading to an army composed (almost?) entirely of Monstrous Creatures.

Personally I don't see why the sub factions rules and models can't be included within the main codex. I remember when 3.5 had rule for every traitor legion in it and the current marine codex has rules for many of the chapters. Many of these supplement books are just a money grab. Even forgeworld published the rule for most of the space marine legions in the Istvaan Campaigns codex.

Don't get me wrong I love the lore and the format of the new books but it is a bit much. Especially this talk that genestealers might be removed from the nid codex and put into a cult list like they did Harlies with the eldar.

Plus I'd rather they released Sisters of Battle instead of going for niche factions. Ad Mech I can understand as they are important faction in Imperium and I think they are going to add further books ie legio cybernetica to slowly expand them into a full army. But I am not really sure about many of the others. I collect tyranids and tau but neither the aliens or the cultists would interest me because they're not the army I collect and I am not sure how much demand there is for them. I've heard a lot of people at my club say they would collect SoB and have heard no interest in alien mercenaries or genecults. Plus tyranids just got a lot of new models with the leviathan campaign, they really don't need any more attention.

Totalwar, because separate books sell more than only codexes. People who want to use Kroot don't want to buy the Tau codex for that, but would buy the Kroot stand-alone book.

I want to see Fallen. I love how Dark Angels vs Fallen is like Horus Heresy II but in the modern area.

Would love to either have warband rules for gathered Fallen or powerful single Fallen to be able to go up against the Unforgiven.

More support for traitors and heretics would be nice. The old Lost And The Damned army would fit right in with the way they've been doing subfaction books lately.

Orks: Freebootaz as mentioned before or a Bad Moonz codex with a corresponding model release of Nazdreg or an Evil Sunz/Speed Freaks codex with Wazdakka. Both are way too badass to be left behind.

IG: Steel Legion, Vostroyan or Catachan codex, all of which deserve plastic kits for infantry that actually come with their special weapons. Catachans in particular need an update with their god-awful gorilla arms.

Why in the world would you think that they would be Battle Brothers with Guard?

In terms of supplements(because quite frankly, that's what is primarily getting discussed here not "new subfactions")?
I would like to see a Kasrkin Phalanx supplement for the Guard.

None of this whole "special operations" stuff that we saw with the Tempestus, they're there to serve as linebreakers and anchors.

I would love to see a Kasrkin/Cadian Shock Forces supplement focused on making a better aggressive/resistant infantry force. Problem is, with the Kasrkin models gone, the probability of that is about zero. Would be a perfect opportunity to re-introduce them and re-do the Potato Shock Troops with something more resembling human beings.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

I would like to see a Fallen army but fluff wise aren't they all scattered and so there would be too few in numbers to make an actual army?

I would like to have the Black Templar codex back and to have my Marshal wield a the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, while he stands in front of a Khorne Blood Thirster knowing full well that the Blood Thirster is going to die with his grenade as he fails to count to 5. Although the move was positive game wise I feel they lost their history and that they feel like another generic chapter, I mean would you lot like to have Dark Angels moved to Space Marines Chapter and lose all your pages of backstory? And... (I'll stop here getting off topic)

Also I would like to see their be a Tau Alien Auxillia codex: They had an awesome Kroot codex that I would love to see again as well as them Vespids getting an upgrade and some variety to them and make them useful like Kroots.

Speaking as someone with hundreds of Cadians...

I don't want them redone. I'd have to buy new ones...

As someone with none, I'd like to buy some, but can't bring myself to do it!

Every time I play Dawn of War 1 or 2 or Space Marine I remember how I like the Cadian design, build a list in battlescribe, look at the models and make various contemptous spluttering noises and put that idea back on the shelf.

Without going offtopic too much longer...

The Cadian Infantry Squad with Respirator upgrade kits and the accompanying Special Weapons from FW do a huuuuuuuuuuge job in making everything look better. Paint the hands as gloves instead of flesh tones and it is a world of difference.

Presuming the Chaos gods get a codex, I'd like to see

Genestealer Cults

Because they are known to infiltrate and take over Imperial Guard units either with 4th Generation Hybrids or else subjecting regular humans to the Genestealer 'kiss'.

The old Inquisitor (Draco) novel featured a battle between two Imperial Guard units - one loyal to the cult, the other to the Imperium. A third unit turned up and wiped out one of them, only to be wiped out itself by the remaining unit because the Imperial and cultist Guard units were indistinguishable from eachother by either equipment or doctrine, leading them to have wiped out the unit on their side by mistake.
