Hi, I bought a kit of these and plan to use them in this campaign but I can't decide which to build them as.

In the themed campaign we have three different army lists. One is built around carnifexes and 2 tfex, another is built around three tunnelling trygons with a flyrant and the final one is kind of also just a lot of fexes since I don't have enough models to play a true horde army at 1850 (but I still have around 80 gaunts in each of three lists coz lols they're nids).

Zons and Venoms both buff my armies, but I can't decide which is best to use.

As for the opposition, I know that there are at least three elder players and a lot of marines including dark angels, blood angels and grey knights. Those elder players like to use wave serpents, wraithknights and seer councils. (sacrifices goat to khorne to give them an updated codex). So I know that I will be fighting.

Also I am not sure what to do about fliers.

The only power I would want though is the feel no pain one and I can't guarnetee getting that power. The others are all based around fear and most of what I am fighting is fearless or a wave serp...I mean vehicle.

As amazingly unhelpful as always Badrukk...

Anyway, are you using Flyrants in both lists or skipping them for fluff reasons in your Nidzilla list? If you're skipping them then I STRONGLY suggest a Walking Tyrant. Gives you a chance at Catalyst while being that Synapse link. In that case, the Venomthrope would be the most useful thing you can grab, making a big blob of angry bugs around a pair of Venoms, can keep the big bugs alive a lot longer. Be sure to keep some Gargoyles up front for a constant cover save too.

But, in a 'dropping in' list, a Venom won't do a single thing. You'd be better off with a pair or more Zoas in a Tyrannocyte or nothing at all. If you have some bugs on the table, sure, Zoanthrope it up for some durable-ish anchor Synapse.

If it's the box of three and you have no other Thrope models, I would build two Zoas and a Venom. The Venomthrope can get away with being one, but Zoas really work best in pairs for Warp Blast to be even remotely useful. I can't take less than two if I take any.

My friends brought a land raider. I have blown it up every single time they field it with the Zoanthropes mind bullets.

Lance drops that 14/14/14 armor down to 12 str 10 ap2. Freaking amazing power.

Plus the mastery levels gives you a leg up on deny the witch if they bring psychers.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Zoanthropes, then find a Malanthrope (Venomthrope only better).

Malenthrope (Forge World) is better than both. But, for your need, I prefer a Zoanthrope to a Venomthrope for several reasons:

1) Only Tyranid invuln save
2) Mastery level 2
3) Not as pointy and fragile (model wise)

That said, the new kit comes with 3 models. Build 2 Zoanthropes and 1 Venomthrope.

I built 2 zoans and 1 Venom with my kit. Then, I got another kit, made them all Zoans, So I could field the Neurothrope.

I built mine as 2 zoans and a neuron. 3 shots with warp blast/lance and the neurons ability to potentially make it free is awesome. 3++ is always good too

When 7th was fist announced, I hated the idea of the psychic phase. Once I started fielding as many Zoans and the Neurothope as I could, I fell in love with the warp lance. Best tool my army has for frying Wave Serpents.

The box give you three...there are two schools of thought on how to split up you three slots: 1) Two Broods of Zoey, one of Veno. Less Shrouding, extra Powers of the Hive Mind, and Warp charges.( also a durable source of Synapse) My fav...2) Two Broods of Veno, one of Zoey as good or better than the first depends on who you fight...

Or put some magnets on them and don't choose!

I played against both and have to say cuz of the stealth/shrouded from the venos bothered me more.
