Subject: How to get 5 shots of a single waystalker?

I think it's pretty solid and cost effective combination. Arm a waystalker with a bow of loren confering it Attack characteristic plus one multiple shot rule. Now if you boost models Attack characteristic by 3 using Savage Beast of Horrors spell from the lore of beasts your waystalker will be able to fire 5 times ignoring armour saves each time.
Never tried it out so far on the battlefield, however I will soon. My friend will most likely deploy Malus Darkblade as his general. Two turns of shooting this way and I should have him down.

The problem is that the range on the spell is short, it's tough to get an unobstructed shot on a general and be in range of the wizard. You're typically looking at -1 for range(or movement) -1 for sniper, and -1 for multiple shots. That knocks down your BS7 to hitting on 3+.
If he screens the general, he'll get hard cover from the unit in the way, and now you're hitting on 5+.
What's worse, is Malus can boost his own toughness to 4 at any of his own movement phases by releasing the daemon in his sword.
It's doable to snipe him out, but it might not be as easy as you think once you account for shooting modifiers and the short range of the spell. You need to keep both the waystalker and the wizard safely bunkered, and that is a fair chunk of points that isn't all that hard to kill.
You may be better off just killing the unit that Malus is in, and then dealing with him on his own.

Your right, thanks for advice. I thought he has BS 8, and did not take into account that Malus might be screened.
Additionaly doesn't hard cover give -2 to hit penalty instead of 5+ save? This would make things even worse.
I will have 5 waywatchers pecking at his unit of 10 cold one knights, I could bring some scouts with Arcane bodkins as well. When I weaken his unit of Malus Darkblade, and Coldone knights I should be able to finish the rest with heroes and lords boosted by the lore of Beasts.
The main idea behind my army is that I deploy as many as possible lords and heroes within 12" of wizzards ( Eaching using lore of beasts to make I get savage beast of horrors or +3 toughness for all characters spell) . I have a unit of enternal guard and unit of dryads just to settle all the heroes. All points left I spend in deepwood scouts with hagbane tips.
By turn 1 he should have all his bolthrowers dead( maybe apart one resulting from unlucky dice roll), due to scouts with hagbane tips. Later I would punish his crossbowman. Once his shooting is severally weakened he can not kill my lords or heroes ( including Durthu) by this means . I hope to wipe out anything in closecombat due to my supercharged heroes.
What do you think of this strategy?

Poison arrows into warmachines is a good idea, but it's not nearly as useful against all those T3 elves.
To boost Savage Beast of Horros you need a 20+.
At that point, you might be better off with other spells at 20+ and just kill him at range rather than combat boosting your characters. Point for point, his fighting characters are better than yours, so using your magic to boost fighting characters is an uphill battle.
I'd use waywatchers to kill his cold one knights, lore of metal or death to take out his characters.
Keep the waystalker, but snipe at his heroes, not his lord.
It's a lot easier to down a 2 wound model than a 3 wound model.
Maybe even pre-game explain how the waystalker works so that he'll screen his knights, putting them out of position.
Often the threat of sniper is better than the reality.

Thanks a lot for advice Matt. I'll go with the lore of metal as he will bring some Chariots as well and these have 3+ armour save. Are there any better means of taking out Chariots? As far as I'm aware poisoned arrows don't do too good due to high armour save. I know wild riders are pretty good, but I own only one unit of these.

I've toyed with the idea of putting a wizard with the forest-port orb into a large unit of waywalkers. Either High Magic, Metal, or Life seems about right, buffing the Walkers with tokens or increasing their toughness, so that they can dish good damage and be protected from return fire.

Waystalkers are scouts. Can you put them in a unit with non scouts?

Yes you can. If you deploy your Waystalkers in a your deployment zone the wizard can join them or if there is a wood they can deploy in somewhere else on the table it would be easy to teleport the wizard there in the movement phase.

I know this isn't really the most appropriate answer, but wouldn't a spellsinger with death magic be a better sniper? Expecially with the new magic rules?

Yes.
You get 3 sniper spells in death, and if you're banking on using magic to make your sniper worth having, you might as well skip the sniper and just do it with magic.
