Wondering if anyone has had any luck or complete disastors running Twin identical (or near identical) casters in a game. I am still new, but love the gameplay and potential twin fluff this could bring.

2 Demon Princes is self explanitory
2 Psykers with 4 chances of getting invisibility
2 Librarian Termies each dropping in with their own termie squad
2 Beat stick SM Captains each flying with their own Vanguard or Assault Marines

I understand the versitility complementing HQs can bring in higher point games, but I think doubling up on list theme could be just as effective if your opponent cant bring enough counters to a strength (ie spam) as well as many HQs being flexible enough to attack multiple targets. Last, many combos are less then the cost of a land raider.

Comments?

Never ran identical HQs, I normally run either similar (Commander w/missile pods & Buffmander for Tau) Or just a single HQ.

A warboss and weirdboy (making good rolls) with 40+ boyz and 300+ points in who knows what else coming at you is scary.

luky7... I think thats similar enough. Do you ever play with 2 different ones? How do you think it compares

I've run a Haemi and an Archon at 500 pts and they're pretty good add some durability.

Twin Flying Hive Tyrants? Tyranids do it all the time. 500pts used but so what? When minimum troops can be 80pts for 20 models, who friggin cares about points. Throw in Leviathan and you get three Flyrants and troops cost can really go down to 45pts for three choices. Fill out the rest as you like.

Two Sanguinary Priests isn't uncommon either. Easy way to give 95%-100% of your <1000pt Blood Angel army FNP at low points. Two Scout Squads that don't matter (or Cassor the Damned), some Bikes, Vanguard or Sanguinary Guard, slap a Priest in those and fill the rest out with Death Company and maybe Dante.

Dual Librarians don't really impress me though. I suppose part of it comes from me not wanting to spam Invisibility so I enjoy taking Biomancy and throwing it at things, but adding another similar squad takes away the actual tactical options when it comes to Objective holding or anti-tank. I'm an advocate of Boys before Toys in those armies. When I spend more points on toys, I typically go with Special Characters and they of course can't be duplicated.

Invisibility is less potent at lower pt games.

Twin HQs? You ain't seen nothing: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/570018.page

In all seriousness though, I've found the best twin hqs to run in low point games are cheap buffing HQs, such as BA sang priests, inquisitors with rad etc. The buffs make a much bigger difference in smaller games.

I like running Obyron and an Overlord at 1000

two chronoteks each leading 10 Warriors will set you back 440 points, and brings 20 dudes each with 4+/5++/4+++, and you still have 560 points to spend on killy stuff.

Yes, twin HQ low point crons are seriously OP

Experience is something you get just after you need it

No more OP standalone than Serpent Spam, a Flyrant Horde or a Daemon Factory

Which are all in turn OP. That's like saying Diego Costa is amazing but only as amazing as Messi, Ronaldo or Suarez.

In 1500 points I often run two identical librarians (65 points apiece? yes please!), or even more sometimes since I can do the DA conclave, with 3 65 points ones, a termie one, and ezekiel.

As for 1000, I've run twin librarians a few times as well. It works decently if you have good squads for them to join, or pack them up in rhinos and just shoot death beams out.

As cool terminator librarians, accompanying 2 termie squads sounds, I can't recommend it in 1000 points. Mine are more expensive because they're Deathwing, but I'm spending nearly 700 for fully equipped terminator squads and two librarians, and that's if you don't give your librarians a 3++ (which I like on terminator ones). Throw in two bare tac squads and you have 100-150 depending on what you gave the terminators and librarians. So you've got very little on the board, very limited anti-tank, no anti-air... it works if you can get your terminators into assault without getting overly chewed up by shooting, or if your opponent has an equally elite/small army.

I frequently run two Flyrants in all my lists, except at 500.

i currently run it as this

warboss w/powerklaw, shoota, 'eavy armor +cybork body

wierdboy mastery level 2

20 boyz w/slugga + choppa
boss nob w/big choppa

15 boyz w/ slugga + choppa
boss nob w/ big choppa

10 boyz w/shoota
boss nob w/combi skortcha

2 deffkoptas w/twin-linked rokkits

2 deffkoptas w/twin-linked big shottas

3 warbikes
boss nob w/big choppa

deffdread w/two close combat arms + two twin linked rokkits + grot riggers

looted wagon w/'ard case, kill cannon, 3 big shootas + grot riggers

looted wagon w/skortcha, big shoota and grot riggers

i normally run the warboss in the 20 boyz, the weird boy in the 15 boyz and then the 10 shotta boyz go in the skortcha looted wagon

im having a good success rate with it so far the only loss was to a whitescar allied guard list

I figured there'd be some fast stuff and lots of dakka in there as well.

I'm still new to this game but not wargaming and strategy. Despite all my tactical knowledge, I get tunnel vision and want a bad ass group of guys to smash face while I end up ignoring the rest of my army.

I figure this would be a good time to branch out my gaming skill and make 2 units that smash face while the rest gets ignored

Leaning towards Raven Guard (as I like space marines) or Iron hands. I was thinking something like
x2 Tac Marines in Rhino
x2 Elite/FA squads (with or without rhino)
x2 HQ ?

Leaning towards 2 Captains in jump pack or to run around in a rhino with somebody, because of simplicity, but starting to think a Chap or Libby would make the entire unit more killy.

If I did duel captains, I'd probably run them with a near bare bones assault squad and extra bodies... the delivery system.

If I went Libby or Chap, I'd go Vanguard with some power weapons.

Anyone want to theory hammer this with me?
