Been looking for a way to use him as just painted my old model but he's sooooo bad. I know on the charge he has a good amount of attacks but for the cost he seems unless. I wish they would faq him to have smash so he's at least like he used to be. Feel bad he just sits in my army bag :(
Anyone had any luck with him in fun games?

I did before the new BA codex came out!
Unfortunately, I just cannot find any justification to take him in any force. The generic Captain is miles better in terms of weapon and equipment load out (as are every other HQ option). I used him a few times with the last BA codex because of his army wide leadership and dead man's hand that ignored armour saves, but he seems to have lost his magic hand in the new book. He also used to fire sternguard ammo from his gun, but that was replaced with a bog standard combi-melta :(
If push came to shove and I did have to field him then I would do the Death Company version and have him charging out of a landraider or Storm raven with some Death Company. However, the Chaplain would be miles better as he would give them all failed to hit, whereas Tycho does nothing to buff the unit other than adding his own weight of attacks. I guess he could tank some wounds for the unit with his invun save, but then again the Chaplain can do that for less points and buff the unit at the same time.
I have been tempted to give him a go for fun, but cannot bring myself to do so as all the time I just felt myself thinking about all the cool things about him that were removed and annoyed me too much to even field him for fun.
He just doesn't work for me. Perhaps use him as a 'counts as' Captain with a combi-melta?

I honestly can't think of a single way to use him that can't be done for far cheaper by other things. He is THE worst thing in the dex by a country mile. I stuggle to think of anything in the entire game as bad as tycho.

Ha ha, yes!
I don't understand why they even wasted paper and ink to have him in the book.

Didn't think I missed anything with him, so he basically the worst captain in the imperial force now, least the name fits "the fallen star"
Ba so many hq choices don't know why they didn't just leave him out seeing as he died in the fluff anyway, that way they could have dataslated him and made him worth while with a new set of rules. Gw infuriates me at times, oh well him and straken can gather dust together :(

He's one of my fav characters fluff wise, but no use for his rules. Use the model as a Sternguard Sgt or even just a Sternguard with combi-Melta.

I think he's terrible and won't really even consider him.
That being said, I also find him the mother of all irony. Did you read the fluff under his heading for the lost, that after he died, they took his mask off and could find no trace of disfigurement? I choose to read that as him being insane rather than him having a miraculous fluff facial.
I kind of like the idea that he was in this battle with this greenskin who psychically assaults him leaving him horribly maimed, but being that it was a psychic assault, maybe the entire maiming was all completely in his own head and no one but he himself could see it, slowly driving him mad and leading to his eventual assignation into the death company. I really do wish he was better. His story, viewed in that light is a very "All work and no play, makes Tycho a dull boy" kind of crazy.
Given that he has a 2+/4++/FNP I wonder if they actually designed his DC version in the way they did to basically just give the DC a viable fluffy tanking character. I'd still rather use a Libby or Dante, but I could see the reasoning sorta.

I hadn't actually read that. Quite a good twist on his story. Typical that his fluff got better but he's almost unplayable in game.
