Subject: For the All Father - a Space Wolf showcase
Following on from my Mordian Iron guard showcase (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/467216.page) I thought I'd root out my Space Wolves and give them some loving too. With wargear and upgrade they come to just over 5000 points.
So for the All Father, lets begin.....
HQ
Spoiler:
The Young King - Ragnar Blackmane
Old Raggys a 2nd ed sculpt from 1994. I think I painted him about 1995 so 20 years old this year. As you'll see Im a very average painter but theres something to be said for doing your own thing Ragnar is second in command only to the Great Wold himself and leads the Company with unmatched guile and ferocity.
Njal Stormcaller
Again another 1994 sculpt, painted in 95. Always liked his Raven.
Njal is one of the most potent psykers in the Galaxy and is often called upon to command his powers in battle.
Ulrik the Slayer
Same agian, ancient metal sculpt. Decided to do him in black in a sort of Chaplain-esque feel, even though WPs arent technically the same as.
Ulrik often leads the young Blood claws into battle, tempering their fervour, yet allowing them to unleash when needed.
Bjorn the Fellhanded
I had Bjorn for years unpainted, not sure why, was one of those centre pice models you dont want to make a mess of. I tyhink I got around to doing him in the 2000s at some stage. Still prefer him to the new sculpt tbh.
Bjorn is the oldest council the Great Company has, having been alive when Russ was Primarch.
Iron Priest Floki
Floki is tasked with tending to the Great Companys Dreadnoughts both when in stasis and on the battlefield.
RunePriest Ra
Ra is Njals understudy but no less potent than his Sensei.
Elites
Spoiler:
Dreadnought Balor
Balor is named after an ancient Celtic God of War and forms a deadly triad with Bjorn and CromDubh.
Dreadnought CromDubh
Dreadnought CromDubh, similarily named, completes the Great Companys triad of walkers.
Terminator Pack "Brothers of Lir"
Lir is the primary Terminator unit of the Great Company. They are armed with a Cyclone missile launcher, Assault cannon and Heavy flamer. Their primary insertion method is via Landraider.
Demi Terminator Pack "Alphas"
Alphas are at suboptimal unit strenght after a lenghty campaign against the Tyranids suffering heavy losses leading the Space Wolf lines.
Terminator Pack "Thors Hammer"
Thors Hammer are half of a full Pack of Terminators often deep striked into enemy bastions or defensive bunkers to bring retribution. They are armed with Storm bolters and an Assault cannon.
Terminator Pack "Thors Fist"
Where Thors Hammer go, Thors Fist usually follow. They are armed with a vicious compliment of hand to hand and close range weaponary.
Rune Priest Skall
As is the want with many Space Wolf companies who do not follow the codex Astartes rigidly, Skall often joins Thors group, irrespective of being assigned to the Companys other Runepriest formations.
Scout Pack "Solas"
Despite most Marine Scouts ages, Solas is a grizzled veteran scout pack well used to stalking its prey for weeks on end if needed.
Troops
Spoiler:
Grey Hunter Pack "Geri"
Geri is armed with a variety of weapons aimed at carrying out a multi functional battlefield role.
Geri is carried to battle in their Rhino APC "Wolfs claw"
Wolfs Claw
Grey Hunter Pack "Freki"
Freki are armed with heavier weaponary than Geri, relying on the ubiquitous missile lancher for support. They do not have a Rhino APc assigned of yet, their last APC also suffering in the Tyrannic wars.
Blood Claw Pack "Tooth Grinders"
No one can recall where the Tooth Grinders got their name and whether it is because of their habit or because they grind their foes to dust. They are led by Sergeant Apone, a grizzled veteran.
They are carried into battle in their Rhino APC "Wolfs tooth".
Wolfs Tooth
Grey Hunter Pack "Balder"
My friend painted these away back when, as you can see his style is much different to mine.
Balder are a close support unit, armed with flamers and meltas. They usually work closely with Freki securing backfield objectives and supply lines.
Demi company of Pack "The Unmarked"
The Unmarked are so named as they bear no shoulder markings or pack iconography. Only Ulrik will speak as to the reason why and few ask.
2nd Demi company
Fast Attack
Spoiler:
Landspeeders "Aon" and "Do"
Packing some of the Companys heavier weaponary both Landspeeders are armed with multimeltas.
Heavy Support
Spoiler:
Long Fang Pack "Nuada"
Nuada is the Great Companys primary long range fire support unit. They are ancient by Space Marine standards and have never broken in battle.
Long Fang Pack "Ogma"
Ogma was recently formed after the Tyrannic wars and will often assume an opposite flank to Nuada to setup a devastating crossfire.
Land Raider "Mactire"
I bought some FW doors and icons a few years back and had some old transfer sheets I also applied.
Land Stalker usually carries Ragnar into battle.
Land Raider "Madra"
I often proxy this for a Redeemeer.
Madra carries Thors group into war, armed with close range weaponary.
Land Raider "Cu"
Cu makes up the last Raider in the Great Companys Triad.
Stormwolf "Logans Eye"
This along with Grimnar was my last and probably final purchase for the Great Company.
Logans Eye is an air superiority / close range assault craft.
Fortifcations
Freya's Twins
Spoiler:
I painted these bunkers around 6 years ago and by fluke they fit in well with the SW theme.
When the Great Company goes to war they often erect fortifcations and bunkers to open supply lines and capture strategic points

Wulfaz pledged his allegiance to Logans Great Company after Ulrik saved his life during the Tyrannic wars, planting a meltabomb on the back of a rampaging Carnifex who had outmanouvered Wulfaz.
He was warred with them ever since and adopted much of the Grat Companies iconography, although he honors his Imperial Home World with the Symbol of the Aquilla on his right pauldron.

Looking good! Piggybacking off of what Icelord said, you may want to try to use a mid tone before hitting those bright colors so the undercoat doesn't show through as much. Mainly just on those yellow bits of the shoulder and reaper chainsword. It's tricky but thinning your colors too will help make smoother areas!
Super bold and great use of transfers too though, its going to look sick all laid out on the field. Keep it up!
Well done on putting together such a big force! Russ would be proud!
As others have said, your yellows seems to be showing through to the base coat (most noticeable on the Knight). I've found GW's Averland Sunset to be a really good basecoat to put on first before adding the brighter yellows on top of it.

Ulfric and Wulfaz are Battle Brothers with close links to Logans Great Company. Ulfric joined Wulfaz, pledging fealty to the Wolves after they saved Wulfaz life during the Tyrannic Wars.
They have fought together ever since under Logans banner.
Whilst Wulfaz favours mid range to close combat protocol, Ulfric prefers to provide covering fire to his Brother.
Together they have taken down foes much larger and powerful than themselves.....

Nice work! I'm just getting back into painting and I have a couple land raiders I'm working up to. I can't imagine the amount of heart and labor required for those Knights!
What's that Orkzilla sized monstrosity in the background of the pic with the 2 Knights? It looks mean.
