So I want to get into the Horus Heresy series and preferably want to read all those books that have a great story to tell. I would like you to recommend books from the series for me - I know the first four or so are essential reading but I'm at a loss after that.

'Straya... Mate.

I picked the first 5 up there, legion, a thousand sons, prospero burns, angel exterminatus and Betrayer, my 3 favorites are Betrayer, Angel Exterminatus and Flight of the Eisenstein.

Edit: no wait, Fulgrim, Flight of the Eisenstein and Betrayer are my favorites.

Edit2: No wait... I can't decide, I really like this series.

On moon miranda.

I got through the first 6 or so and then had an increasingly difficult time getting through the rest. I did read "Legion", "Descent of Angels" and "Mechanicum", but couldn't finish "Battle for the Abyss".

I picked up "A Thousand Sons" and "Prospero Burns" and they were "eh" (and strongly reinforcing my view that GW just has zero idea what they want to do with SW's besides "everything", making them look truly stupid).

I don't think I've ready anything since 2011, the first 4 or 5 were really good, after that they start to go downhill pretty quickly.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

I heard The First Heretic was pretty good in detailing how the corruption started, and more info on Lorgar's redemptive crusade where he discovers the "Primordial Powers"

Loved Prospero Burns. Dan Abnett is a god and is incapable of making mistakes. His interpretation of the SWs is the benchmark for any fluff I read and he should be in charge of everything, until the final battle, until the wolftime.

Thoughts on Mechanicum, Battle for the Abyss (Word Bearers vs Ultramarines), Know no Fear (Battle of Calth), Fear to Tread (Blood Angels) and Angel Exterminatus (Iron Warriors)?

Anything by Dan Abnett. Unremembered Empire was an outright amazing story that broke fluff in the most forgivable ways and it didn't feel for a moment to be out of place, even when dealing with ludicrous ideas.

Know no Fear is one of the few books I picked up for a fifteen minute read and accidentally read half the book. Just sorta happens with a particularly good story.

Horus Rising did a good job of being 'new and special' but the rest of that story arc I only read for closure, not book quality.
