So Ive used the old trukks as Gun Trukks before since they are so much smaller than the new Trukks.

Does anyone know the dimensions of the new plastic Mek Gun when assembled and would it be about the same as the old Trukk? I have 5 and would like to convert them. Any opinions at all would be helpful!

Thanks,
Pipes!

I did exactly this - the right-hand traktor kannon has a gorka morka trukk chassis, and the left-hand one was once a buggy. (Looking at them again, perhaps the other way around - I changed so much, it's hard to be sure)

I removed maybe 1 cm from the trukk width and maybe 2 cm from the length (sorry, I sold them, so can't measure now to check).

You can see some of my other ork conversions at http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/images-550-23673_Orks.html

Right side is an old trukk chassis.

Suffice to say, cut them down a bit, and it will be just right. Wish I could give you a better comparison, but my Mek Gunz arent assembled, and my old-style trukk is actually two trukks bashed together to make it the size of the new ones.

Awesome!! Thanks so much. I doubt anyone would care too much it the Trukk was a little bigger. More for them to shoot right?

I was considering buying one Mek Gun from my FLGS and plop it in the middle of 4 Trukk Gunz so if anyone had an issue, they'd see the "real" type to compare.

Thabks for the reply and nice work!!

omg, those conversions of Ork guns are awesome! seriously considering wrecking two of the buggies I have to make them.

do you have a list of some bits you've used for this ?

Get it painted up though. It's a scientific fact that unpainted models die quicker than painted one's.

The other two reasons to buy one standard model (but not assemble it as standard) are:
- it gives you a good comparison for your own converted Gun bits, especially when rummaging through your bits box looking for suitably shaped and sized bits
- you can spread the original kit parts over several models

Definitely consider magnetization too - a fixed chassis with shield and gun mount, then separate swappable guns to fit on top. Not too difficult when you're converting anyway.

Excellent advice. This is one of the reasons I love Orks so much is the legitimate conversions. We've had and entry in our codex for decades called "Looted Wagon". Our BW model is relatively new! You can make everygun on a BW turret mounted if you wish!

I like the idea of swappable guns though since artillery isn't really meant to move I might just make them plug in as opposed to magnets.

Yes, if you can get some plasticard pipes in sizes that will snugly fit into each other, then plug-swappable Big Guns are very doable. Depends on where on the model you want the 'swap' though - the entire gun, or just the end of the barrel. (I've done similar things with kanz weapons too.)

I'd probably just do the barrel and tip swap if feasible. First off they're custom, second, they're Orks.

I just had a flash of inspiration this morning regarding the barrels. I'll maganatize the Mek Gun itself and use small nails into each of the 4 tips included in the set. Then I can swap out the various Gunz on the actuall model and that'll represent what the entire unit has since mixing gun types is usally frowned upon.

I'm also temped to cut all the old Gorka Morka guns in half since the Mek Gun model only has the 2 wheels in front.

Then I definitely can't use them for MANz missiles anymore :(

Yeah, a 4-wheeled Gun could maybe cause some confusion for opponents thinking it's some sort of odd buggy, but the lack of driver or engine and all the grot crew should be a hint to them As with any major conversions, you should always give a quick "these are Traktor cannonz" (or whatever) explanation as you deploy them, to avoid any confusion.

From a modelling perspective, the bigger issue is what will you replace the rear wheels with? Some sort of 'earth spade' to absorb recoil makes logical sense (for the Gunz which recoil, at least), but having made a few myself, they can be a pain to convert - although obviously that depends on what's in your bits box. Google images of real-world artillery for some inspiration.

Honestly I'd use some spare sprue. I love the stuff, use it for barricades all the time. Plenty of angled sharp pointy pieces that look like the ones in the acatual Mek Gun kit.

Lol now that I think of it, I'll use the sprue FROM the Mek Gun kit so all the guns will have something from that box. I love Orks!!
