I'm not sure if I've been running this wrong or not, but my army list has Ezekiel and two librarians, which forms the conclave (which allows Ezekiel plus 2-4 librarians). Can I count those as the necessary HQ's for a CAD? Or would I need to run a third librarian (or any other HQ choice) that isn't part of the conclave as my mandatory HQ? Further, even if Ezekiel and company aren't part of the CAD, I can still make Ezekiel my warlord, correct?

So TLDR... if my HQ's are part of a formation, can they also count as the HQ of the CAD? I was under the impression that formations are part of the CAD, and it'd only be different if the librarius conclave was its own detachment, but had a couple people saying I was running unbound.

No model or unit can belong to more than one Formation/Detachment.

You'd need an extra Librarian (or other HQ) to be the HQ of the CAD.

Formations are special types of Detachments, completely separate from any other Detachment. A model may not be part of more than one Detachment.

So if you take the Librarius formation, you'll need to take another HQ to lead your CAD.

I suggest reading the Detachments section of the rulebook from start to finish. It's actually pretty clear, you just have to try to forget how list building worked in previous editions

Yeah, I was just a bit confused by the idea that 3 guys can be an army haha.

The detachment you choose your warlord from is your primary detachment. This could be from a formation, if Jo other rule disallows it.

Aside from the much smaller size and more restrictive nature of what units can or cannot be included in it a formation is a detachment no different then any other type of detachment. They have just as much right to be your primary detachment so yes you can have a warlord be from a formation.

You need to select a Character model to be your Warlord. Doesn't have to be an HQ. You could make a Space Marine Tactical Squad Sergeant be your Warlord.

If there are no Character models available, you may select any model to be your Warlord. Non-Character Warlords don't get a Warlord Trait.

You still have to abide by other restrictions. For example, your Warlord may not be selected from the models in an Allied Detachment. Combined Arms, Codex/Supplement/Campaign specific Detachments and Formations are normally eligible.

If your army is as such...
Librarius Conclave - Ezekiel, 2x Librarians
Space Marine Combined Arms - Captain, Scout Squad, Tactical Squad
...you will have 6 eligible models that can be selected as Warlord. They are Ezekiel, the 2x Libbies, the Captain, the Scout Sarge and the Tactical Sarge.

Take the conclave with a big imperial guard blob detachment, make the blobs fearless and buff with psychics and power field generators. A list like this did very well at LVO I think.
