Subject: Are Eldar still top tier? And what are we expecting from the new craftworld book.
I have seen some new leaked images from next week's white dwarf which have confirmed the new craftworld book, but more importantly has shown me they have re done the jet bike models. This is huge for me. Always wanted some jetbikes always hated the models.
Having seen that, it got me thinking. Are Eldar still classed as top tier? I used to run an iyanden list, but it's been a while and I've not dusted them off for a long time. So I'm thinking about hosting the book back out and going a slightly different route with them.
The issue is, I don't know what to expect from the new book. I'd imagine something akin to the daemonkin and necron books where by the detachments are now a collective of formations and the book itself is simply a platform to push new models. But I want to know if it is replacing the eldar codex, or simply another way of Fielding eldar all together?
So I was wondering if dakka could help me? How much they know about the new book? What it might bring?

Eldar are still a strong army. Practically anything in the Codex bar Banshees has a use.
I imagine it will replace the Eldar Codex. GW. is doing away with 'Take X for Y to become Troops', as well as removing Finecast.
I just hope Phil Kelly isn't doing it. All the 7th edition Codexes (Orks is dubious but they were the first) have improved the armies from their previous Codex. If Phil Kelly is writing it I dread to think which unit will be spammed.
YMDC = nightmare

I can't wait. I think the new book, with it's craftworld focus, will be what players have been wanting for a long time.
Old School Eldar players miss the differentiation between craftworlds that used to make the armies feel unique. I'll trade any number of rapetastic MCs and super tanks to make get some Alaitoc special rules or formations again. BOOM HEADSHOT
And I'd say plain Eldar is starting to slip out of top tier. Summoning demons would maintain them at top tier but that's an asinine way to play. Eldar have pretty lousy AA, especially against FMC. So the 5 tyrant lists tend to spank Eldar pretty hard. Then again, if you're not in a tournament I don't see why you would ever subject yourself to that kind of cheese induced boredom.

Nonsense. The Battle Company box is perfect for filling out your ranks of aspect warriors with a large contingent from the Screaming Baldies shrine.

The only change I'm sure of is a nerf to the serpent. Not sure what, but a nerf of some description.
Holofields will probably be nerfed to match harlequins.
I hope jetbikes go down to a 4+ save.
enjoy
Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

There are only so many 36" areas on a table. Get some equally long range and herd them into a corner. When they run for it, use the shorter rang on them as they scatter.

Fine in theory. Tough in practice.
When said opponent's unit is able to shred most things that come near it, and the player also has wraithknights putting pressure on your own forces, getting close to them and fighting on your terms won't happen too often.

The overall hope is that what we saw in the WD page might be a misprint but I doubt it. Jetbikes are good now, but now you'll have a reason to take more than the minimum 3 biker squad. For me I all ready own 12- 4(Shuriken Cannons) and have alot of conversion parts will I make them in to shooty death. depends but, I'll wait untill I see the codex

Yes in the right hands they stil are very leathal.

Yes it will end up replacing both the current craftworld codex and codex Iyanden. The significant canges to distort weapons and the wraithknight basically slaps the Iyanden codex to the way side, well that is if you want to use the new rules.
