Subject: Non-GK psykers taking Sanctic Daemonology-Worth the risk?

Title pretty much says it all. I am curious to see what everyone's opinion is about using a psychic discipline that, while it has some pretty cool powers in it, will result in a lot more perils of the warp issues. I was thinking of letting Ezekiel take Sanctic powers to give my DA a boost in an upcoming tournament. I will be running a Librarius conclave, so I will have other powers too.

Well, I only use Sanctic on my GKs, and never use Sanctic on my non-GKs, because perils on any doubles rather than on 6s sucks.

I've done it with eldar and rune priests. It's worth the risk when it works...which is most of the time. Perils doesn't scare or bother me much at all and the reward is usually game changing...

The ork table is just better than sanctic daemonology. +2 str is better than +1a (in most circumstances) but only marginally so, and the rest of the powers are either redundant or better suited for orks. The sanctic primaris is useless, even against many daemon lists, whereas you can generally rely on the ork primaris to at least pay for the cost of the weirdboy.

Malefic sounds like it would be better. Perils won't matter as much when you become a Daemon.
Fluffy? no - but hella fun!

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

Unrelenting Rubric Terminator of Tzeentch

Depends on your list and what you're playing.
Sanctuary is gold if you've already got a 3+ (Stormshield) or 4+ (Tzeentch Termies/TSons/Forewarning/Sigil/Iron Halo/etc).
Gate is nice if you've got the smaller quad sizes to manage it (ie not orks or cultists) and the shooting to make use of it, or just to get out of a bad position or capture an objective.
Hammerhand can make any unit a real threat in CC, doubly so for stuff with power weapons. The lowly powersword is pretty good at str 6 ap3.
Cleansing flame is pretty decent if you've got the mobility (pod/DS/Gate)
Vortex is a desperate last resort, but can be quite handy.
Overall, the utility powers are all WC1, so minimal perils risk with 2 dice at 75% to cast and no risk at 50% to cast using 1 dice.
It's even better with the DA conclave, since you can just burn the guys who didn't roll anything good to cast Sanctic powers and still have them available even if he perils' himself to death.
