Over the last couple of days I've encountered a repeated issue of being taken to a 404 page when posting a comment. This has happened in some DCM threads and the N&R thread about MEdge

Submitting the comment form goes to http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/jforum.page, without any parameters. This generates a 404 error and will not reload the page. Removing jforum.page from the url reloads the main forum homepage, but has lost my comment.

This has occurred in Firefox and Opera. I've not tried in IE yet, I will keep an eye on things.

Do you use multiple computers/tablets/phones?

I've noticed similar things occasionally. I find that I'm no longer logged in when it does happen.

I suspect that it happens if you're logged in with another computer having the "remember me on this device" checked, and somewhere along the lines, maybe because the window is still open on the other device, it will steal the authentication back and invalidate your login on the device you're using currently. Then you're trying to post without current credentials, and strange things happen.

At least that's my crazy notion while putting literally no effort toward proving it. Doesn't happen enough to me to be worth looking at it/filing a proper bug.

Yes, I do have multiple devices. I've found that sometimes when I refresh the site I'm logged out, other times I'm still logged in. I suspect you are right with it being related to the auto login. It could also be to do with a load balanced session getting confused

There have been some issues noted lately with proxy servers, especially with providers on mobile devices. Could you please clear your dakka related cookies on every device and let me know if it still happens after that / relogging in?

I'm due to give the site a restart on friday morning which might rejig things a touch, so I'd wait until after then to do a cookie reset.
