Since Scarlet Squig, davec, and other so-called Mantic fans and Wargaming savants are evidently too busy working, being with friends and family, sleeping, or doing other equally irrelevant things, it falls to a pretender to the throne like me to post the latest Dreadball Xtreme update here. For shame!

The Koris have been started – still work in progress.

The Medi-bot is finished! They can be taken as part of your team as equipment, much in the same way as coaching dice and cards. Cool little detail to tell you about - in the background, the pistons either side of the bed allow the medi-bot to extend the stretcher for patients of different sizes.

And that's your lot

Pledge Manager

We had hoped to get the pledge manager out this week but it was more important to test it thoroughly so we’ve delayed the launch.

It’s a new system where you'll be able to check what you ordered, make additions too (which are charged via paypal or credit card) as well as update your contact and delivery details. It’s a much more sophisticated system and the most complex the designer has built, so we’re taking the time to get it right.

We hope to release it soon!

If they can make that Koris look half as good as that render, I will be picking a team up. Thats just too cool.

Looking forward to getting the pledge manager and seeing what all I can get. Kind of lost track of this one at the end, so I'll be looking over it very closely to see where the best deals are.

Also, Vermonter is on top of his game today!

Koris are definitely cool, the design reminds me of the "Future Predators" from Primeval.

Think they'd make quite an interesting Warpath faction too, since they enter the material dimension only when they want to screw around with it for fun.

I always liked the Medi-bot concept art, and I'm very pleased with the way they've rendered it. I caved at the last minute and plunked down some cash for the Antenociti medi-center on Deadzone survey 2, and this guy is going to fit right in when I build and furnish a medical bay with my Deadzone terrain and / or battle systems stuff. The bot looks to be big, but he's only $5; nice deal.

The robot is all gentle curves, in keeping with its peaceful function, but it still might be worth getting some to mod with weaponry for military applications.

I agree, plenty of potential there for interesting fluff and some devilishly bizarre units. I'd like to see the Koris "gate" in other techno-organic monstrosities from their dimension as war machines, vehicles, and support units. I doubt we'll ever see a full Koris Warpath faction, though. A pity.

My only issue with the Koris render right now - and I realize it is a work in progress, so hopefully this will change - is that it's current posing looks more like the sculptor is figuring out how to fit all the arms in, so that they look stiff, rather than posing those arms in creepy, dynamic ways that give the model purpose and movement. When the renders are done, I really don't want to see all four arms suspended in the air in identical positions. Spiders can hang in stasis for hours, but they can also move with disturbing, unpredictable quickness when they want to; I hope to see that kind of varied animation in the finished Koris poses.

On a side note, I never saw Primeval. Is it worth taking a look?

A robotic forklift would literally be a better med-bot than that thing. At least a forklift is designed for lifting things without sticking unnecessary hardware to the lifting arms, and keeps the motive apparatus out of the way instead of having those completely useless knees sticking out the front.

Alex, my man, you are a genuine curmudgeon, and there's something oddly charming about that. The more negative you get, even about things I like, the more I enjoy reading your posts.

I must be going mad.

Form should follow function. It should be possible to look at the medi-bot without the context of the hover-gurney and know that it's a medical robot, just like you should be able to look at a Guard and know it's not a Striker, and vice versa.

Looks like a robot with a star trek bed sticking out of its chest to me, the only way to make it scream Medi-bot louder is to paint it white with the red cross emblem on both shoulders

What is that underslung on his other arm? At first I thought it was a gun, but I don't think it is.

It's the same thing underslung on both arms, and at this stage I'm prepared to say they're industrial grade fluid injection/extraction systems, for when you need a lot of drugs delivered or blood removed, fast

SS, I didn't even think about the Primeval Preds. Good call. That will definitely be my season 3 (6?) team of choice. Those things were vicious. And to you people who haven't watched primeval...do it. Lol. It's an order.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

@Vermonter: The short-lived Canadian spin-off was also pretty good, they kept the humour . Can't think of a single ep of the original that I didn't enjoy, it's just a ton of awesome dino rampage action. The time travel element is handled better than it is in Dr. Who.
Definitely worth a watch, its fairly predictable (with the exception of main character deaths, where it makes GoT look restrained) and the acting is sometimes terrible, but if you watch it on a Saturday night with a couple of beers you'll get to sit back and fully enjoy stuff like velociraptor motorbike chases or Hannah Spearitt's arse.

As for new Warpath factions, I did ask during the campaign and there was nothing said by mantic that indicated any of the new races might make it to warpath, although they did say crystallans might make it to deadzone.

Watching those videos, or seeing the studio sets in any context, always makes me a bit sad. To make my stuff look as nice as those pieces, I'd have to give up a reasonable amount of modularity. The finished buildings on the bases with the nice (otherwise non-existent) corner caps look like they'd be at home on an Infinity board with any of the MicroArt or TME stuff or whatever.

Still ridiculously happy with my battlezones, they're so much fun to mess around with, and when my airbrush is back up and running... gonna be fun to paint too! I want to build one of those sexy walls, but I can't reconcile the expenditure of tiles to do so.

Not overly concerned about the medibot, but the Koris is coming along nicely.

Agreed. It's great from the get-go, the acting is generally a pretty good standard (particularly Ben Miller and Douglas Henshall), the effects are very cool and the plots consistently intriguing. It's probably one of the only TV series where I've liked every episode. I wasn't such a fan of the Canadian spin-off, it was a bit generic compared to the original.

Posting this has made me think: A faction that operated like the Future Predators in DZ would be awesome. A whole army of CC specialists that are lightning-fast and brutal. It'd be hard to introduce variety, but once the solo-play rules are out they'd make a neat opposing force. Might have to experiment,DZ doesn't really have a CC-focused army.

Plague might as well be the CC-focused faction. Stage 2's, swarms, plague teraton and dogs can all ruin your day. It's where the real meat of the faction is, all the shooting is just a case of trying to pin or suppress to make killing stuff in CC easier, but with the 3-point dogs you can easily go all-CC if you want.

Plague swarm especially, that thing is insane... AP 2, Agile, Really Tough, 3+ Fight.

With the size of the model and command action/ move card shenanigans it is pretty much guaranteed to get into combat before you can do anything about it.

Fair point, I was more thinking of a literally all-CC faction. I appreciate Plague are CC heavy, but they do have some guns, I think an all CC-list could be interesting.

To be honest, I just want to get something like a Future Pred into DZ.

I really like the pricing on some of the cheaper terrain sets, great little packs for younger gamers at a modern "pocket money price" entry level. My nephew and niece (10 and 7) always seem in awe of my DZ scenery when they visit my house, so to drop £10/15 on a set for them as a little gift seems great. Though given the rigid nature of the plastic I think I would have to supervise the construction, it could lead to some quite hurt fingers.

I'm all for trying a pure CC faction.

I'd be willing to give it a try with the Plague.

Big mean heavy hitters are much more my style that frail little shooty things.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

A question for you guys:

Is the 109 GBP scenery deal a good value, or something to wait on buying individual zones at a FLGS discount?

Ran some figures

£110 - 46 sprues (ignore connectors for now) = £2.39 per sprue

Contents (not exact contents but as close as possible)

3 Urban Districts = £75
.75 Landing Pad = £15
1.66 Fortifications = £41.50
Defense lines already in Landing Pad and Fort sets
Total £131.50

So if you buy those separately you would have to buy 3 Urban District, 1 Landing, 2 Fort District = £145
or 1 Urban Sector, 1 Urban District, 1 Landing Pad, 1 Fort Sector = £145

Online 20% discount = £116 so £6 difference but you would have a few more bits from the 3 or 4 separate sets

EDIT for that £6 extra you would have (based on 3 Urban District, 1 Landing, 2 Fort District ) (I'm open to correction these)

+2 Accessory sprues
+2 Urban Sprue A
+1 Urban sprue B
+1 Urban Sprue C
-2 Urban sprue D
+2 Landing Sprue A
+1 Fort sprue A
+1 Fort sprue B
+1 defense sprue B

EDIT 2:

And I believe 1 Urban Sector, 1 Urban District, 1 Landing Pad, 1 Fort Sector is

+2 Urban Sprue D
+1 Accessory Sprue
+2 Landing Sprue A
+2 Landing Sprue B
+1 Fort A
+1 Fort B
+1 Defense Line A
+1 Defense Line B
+1 Connector

TL: DR buying separate kits at 20% discount is better value

One interesting thing that Ronnie mentioned is that the big £50 sets will also have a ruined version released, so there will be a bundle deal on that when it comes out as well.

Really liking the look of that med-bot thing.

And those scenery packs look very promising, definitely think these could become the de-facto terrain choice for sci-fi games going forward.
