SM CPT should he have a SS or is his Iron Halo enough?
I'm not sure an extra +1 to his ++ is nice and it only costs 10 points, but it takes up his off hand.
Alternatively a free extra attack is always nice especially when you have good melee weapons.
Thoughts?

I would say it depends on who you are playing. If you're playing other SM players with there lots and lots of Grav weapons, then the SS is the way to go. If you're fighting someone who doesn't have a whole lot of AP2 weapons, then the Halo should do fine.
Who do you most commonly play against?

Hmm good question.
I'll try to do some reasoning.
The storm shield seems quite good if you are in a low points game/don't want to spend points for the Shield Eternal. The problem is that being T4 he can be instagibbed by a meltagun or a power fist, and in those regards either a Bike or a 3++ EW definitely help.
Personally I take a TH/SS or SE/Bike captain because I play Scars.
I think the storm shield is worth something only on biker captain because he suffers ID only on S10, so you can somewhat limit the number of Look Out Sir! rolls to make.
To be more specific I need some info:
What kind of build do you plan to use?
Where do you put him?
With what unit?
What is his job?

Yes, it's worth losing the extra hand for an attack and the extra points for a VERY good Invul Save.
That said, it IS a Captain, so how many points are you trying to put into him anyway?

Compare 50% to 67%. For few points you get a flat +17%,which is good.

I think this is the bigger point. Does a Captain really want to take on anything that requires a Storm Shield?
It seems his best use is as an infantry slayer. Power Sword and Bolt Pistol does that quite well. 2+ save doubles his durability against that unit type.
